I just got off the phone with my Dad, who just drove his 2.7td? to Gloucestershire from Bedfordshire with no problems but then span the car 180 degrees when he tried to turn the car round at his destination hehe

Now he believes me..
One of my neighbours drove successfully in snow all the way home from the Midlands only to skid on his drive and collide with his own garage door hehe

Although strictly speaking not an S Type connected question , I was wondering if the AWD system employed by Jaguar improves things any ? Clearly its not a conventional 4x4 as employed by other JLR models but does anyone have any thoughts or experiences ?

I drive an S type, and after the last lot of snow we had, I very quickly decided it was the worst car I have ever driven in the snow.

I am guessing you did all your driving on the flat if you found it so good?

Put the S Type on an upward slope, and you will be lucky to reach the top, going down hill, due to the weight & the wide tyres, it's like a sledge with no steering!

Best solution in the snow is to leave it in the garage!
Yup that was my experience when we had one - to be fair, when it decided to break away, it was gentle and progressive. Just not great with the wife and a young baby aboard. Still, it allowed me to swing buying a Range Rover past the missus, so it wasn’t all bad 😁

My S-Type (2005, 3.0 V6 with 6 speed auto) was really good in snow, with Nokian winter tyres in the original 245/40R18 size. I live very rural in Scotland with steep slopes, tight corners and very low priority snow clearance.

Trying to drive around on summer tyres in snow is a mug's game, and driving a Range Rover on summer tyres would be more dangerous as it's not going to stop for a T-junction at the bottom of a slippery incline any better than an S-Type on summer tyres will.
