Audi TDI Smoking on startup and bad injector readings

Just remember its not your local Audi dealers fault.
And in the case of fuel injectors they are made by Siemans or bosch or someone.
Audi dont make them.
no def not the dealers fault, its audi and most people should understand the dealers hands are tied too to a certain extent. And in the case of fuel injectors they are made by Siemans or bosch or someone.

Dont get me wrong some dealers are shocking but most are ok and few are great.

sorry I might be missing something but why dont you just take it back to audi, even if you bought it private, crashed it and repaired it and even had your own service history this is not acceptable.
Why are people think ah well injectors went faulty we will fix ourself. this is not acceptable, if injectors are going faulty after 5 years then they were not fit for purpose int he first place, you could go to small claims court and argue this quite successfully. I have had cars that were 15 years old and I have never in my life had this think about injectors until I bought this bloody audi a8.
I am sure I have a problem and as soon as its confirmed I will go to audi and say i want this fixed asap foc. I have no cover what so ever and my car is 3 years out of warranty. why do I expect this? becuase I dont find it acceptable that these cars that cost in excess of 18-20k when new (60k in my case) and for them to go belly up 5 years later. A one off I can understand but not this. I am not letting this lay down. I will then set up a website called chocolate injectors.com and dedicate it to audi, by the time im finished with them they will wish i never bought the dam thing.

Hi, I had a similar problem with my 2004 2.ol 140tdi. After spending thousands on it I had the ecu tested three times by different companies, they all said it was fine. I bought a plug and play ecu, it sorted my problem. It was throwing up injector faults and kept going in to limp mode when hot.
Hope that helps in some way.

just wanted to add. (registered just to write this HAH)
your torsion value has changed ...might be worth investigating?
that could change tick over and injection deviations
well it does for my 1.9 tdi anyway!
also changes how much fuel it uses at idle and has quite a huge swing from +6 tp -6 (thats what vagcom states anyway) but after + or - 4 my car doesn't like to start (didnt try anything over + or - 4 as could cause serious problems)
anyway just thought id say this and may help
i think your torsion value was 2.7 and the latest one ive seen says 1.0 so could cause some change in mpg too maybe ?

I stumbled on this, and it brought back memories of exactly the same problem I had with my BORA 150.
Ran great, 150km no probs, then had the chocolate cam issues. Cam replaced and it never ran well again. Took it back to a diesel specialist in Ulverston, who did the cam replacement, it ran crap so, after an injector replacement, they had no further solutions, took it to the main VW dealer at Lindale, and they were no wiser, after setting up the injector timing, still ran like a bag of nails first thing.
Symptoms were, first start of the morning, white smoke central !!!!, then for the rest of the day, no issues, and ran great, but fuel consumption well down on normal.
Solution found , traded in against a 2lt tdi Leon, which was faultless, up to 140 miles, then on to a Toledo, still in it's youth.
Conclusion, don't go trying to bottom out known VW tdi issues, if you have the cash, trade in and move on.

Hello my friends, i own a 2004 A3 8p tdi 140bhp bkd engine with the same issues but i've found the solution recently! IT IS CAM TIMING PROBLEM! After almost 1 year searching over the net i've found that everybody knows well how to adjust torsion value in the front cam, however, bkd engine have 2 cams! The rear cam (exaust cam) is the responsible for injection timing, and every time the front cam is adjusted to achieved the torsion value closest to 0.0, the rear cam needs also to be adjusted in the same proportion. A diference of just 5? between both cams is enough for permanent non start problems...
Through vcds it's easy to see torsion value (mea. Blocks group 4), and this is made by making small adjustments in front cam. But rear cam is not so simple, you need to see group 015 and 013. In group 015, the bkd engine must have 0.4 to 0.6 l/h of fuel cons. to eliminate rough idle, also engine torque at idle should be around 28.0 if you want your flyweel to live longer!
Group 013 shows injectors deviation and the most incredible is that when you move 1 or 2mm the rear cam, the deviation also change completly!
See this photo and try to achive the same values
Try yourself to search the web for bkd exaust cam timing, you will find usefull info.
Hope this helps.

Hi and sorry to tag on to this post. Having the same issue as a member stated in this thread.
inherited a Golf 20TDI BKD with same problem. Running like a bag of spanners and smoking like Dot from Eastenders.
7.4 °BTDC Injection Start (specified)
6.6°KW Injection Duration (specified)
5°KW Torsion Value
2.99 mg/str Injection Quantity Deviation Cyl. 1
-2.94 mg/str Injection Quantity Deviation Cyl. 2
-2.96 mg/str Injection Quantity Deviation Cyl. 3
2.82 mg/str Injection Quantity Deviation Cyl. 4
Had an initial fault of misfire cylinder 1. Changed that injector - and same as above. Installed 4 new injectors - same as above.
Installation correct, lash settings correct - same as above
Tried new ECU - same as above.
Any help with causes and directions much appreciated.
