Audi TT S-line Diesel or Petrol? Buying Advice Please
Discussion
Hi,
I am looking to purchase a daily driver that will be used mainly for motorway travel up to about 2000 miles a month. I'm looking at a TT as i'd rather something a little bit sporty feeling rather than the usual BMW 325D.
Can anyone give me some advice as to what would be the best option as regards the diesel or petrol versions of the TT? I've got about £25k to spend so i'd bee looking at a new(ish) one. They both seem to be around the same MPG? as they quote 48-55 on combined / extra urban?

I think with the petrol you would be looking at around 35mpg. I can't believe it would get anywhere near the economy of the diesel.
I would go for the diesel personally at that mileage. I have the 170 in a Rocco and it averages a real 55mpg (60mpg DIS) on my daily commute of 60 miles each way.

They're pretty well behaved little cars, nothing past cosmetics to report really. CR170 won't blow anyone's skirt up but it's leagues ahead of the PD version for reliability.
My current A3 170 quattro (same engine/box) does 34 bimbling around and 41-42 on a run. I don't tend to hang around and TTs are a damn sight lighter than Sportbacks.

The diesel is very economical (I got 48mpg out of one I had on loan, with a fair bit of hard driving and no motorway work) but boring as hell to drive.
Although if you're just sitting on the motorway it doesn't make that much difference I guess.
The ride on the S-Line models is shocking though - Get one with magnetic ride if you can, it totally transforms it.

19's aren't standard on s-lines. The ride on mine is fine on 18's
There's a BIG difference between an S Line (without mag ride) on 18s and a TTS (mag ride as standard) on 18s.Magnetic ride is the best option you can add to a TT in my opinion. It makes it ride beautifully for the type of car it is.

I'm not saying mag ride isn't a good option, it's this that I don't agree with....

Well... I was given an S Line on 18s as a loan car and was shocked at how poor the ride was (I wouldn't personally be able to live with it). I went over a bump on my normal commute that jarred very badly through the car. I'd been over the same bump tens of times in my own car and many others and never even noticed it (I can notice it now, but it was never severe enough for me to have noted it as being a "bad" bump before)."The ride on the S-Line models is shocking though"
Each to their own though. We all have different tastes.
I'm looking at an 11 plate TDI quattro, s-line with 10k miles on it.

Its got 19inch wheels on it, will drive during the week but is everyone saying that 19's are a bad idea?
Also, s-tronic or manual? I take it s-tronic is the old DSG?
