Golf tailgate won't open

one of my employees loaded some stuff into my car last night, now lo and behold I can't get the tailgate to unlock....

constant locking / unlocking of the central locking seems to do nothing the handle just feels all limp (fnarr) as if the tailgate was still locked, but I can hear the actuator working when I unlock it.....

anyone know how to fix?

What sort of car are we talking about (I'm guessing a Mk4 Golf going on your profile ?)

Read the manual - you can lock the boot with the key such that it doesn't unlock when the doors are opened with the central locking. Can't quite remember how but the book tells you.
