So my ageing 2000 A6 C5 has thrown up an amber warning message today. As you can see the display is fairly knackered so any advice on what she's trying to tell me would be much appreciated. I have deduced it's not:

Bulb out
Washer fluid low
Battery voltage low/high
Speed limiter reached
Brake pads low
Service not due

Any thoughts?

I know I used to get an "amber alert" across the top of my centre display on my Octavia vRS when oil was reaching a low level. This would apparently become a "red alert" whould I not sort the issue out after the first alert.

AFAIK - The yellow is a warning such as bulb out, washer fluid low etc.

When it turns red, you have a serious issue. I would go and check the bulbs, oil levels, fluid levels etc.

Alternativly, you could find someone with access to a VAGCOM, who can read the code out.

Good luck.

I'd have thought thats washer fluid, but yeah get it hooked up to VCDS that's the easiest way to find out for sure.

Isn't there a 'test' button on these, that runs through every possible warning? I'm sure there is, but maybe that gen A6 was one of those without it.

If so this will be easy for you. Run tests, count until the same warning comes up, then compare with the order of tests taken from a working car smile.

If you're anywhere near me at any point I've no problem plugging it in to tell you.
