B8 RS4 - questions...
Discussion
It's an option called "Matt Aluminium Pack" (perhaps it's "Package" or "Trim"), I can't remember exactly. Either way it was a factory option.
It could/can be specificed on other RS cars, too.
Plenty of cars without it, but if you find "the one" and it has this unwanted option, I'm sure any competent paint shop can colour code it.

Cheers guys. The car I'm interested in doesn't have it and I was just wondering if it signified something important! I'm more interested in having the black optic option.
Djc I've just seen your profile pic. Stunning car. Exactly what I'm looking at getting.
ThanksDjc I've just seen your profile pic. Stunning car. Exactly what I'm looking at getting.
I specced it:
Sepang blue
Black optics
20" titanium v spokes
Driver assistance package
Sports package
Privacy glass
Heated front and rear seats
Audi connect high
B&O
Advanced Key
Fine nappa leather
I'm sure I've missed something but basically it's got quite a bit but no bucket seats
Sounds very similar spec to the one I'll hopefully be getting.
Copied from the advert:
"....sepang metallic pearl blue + black optic pack with plenty of optional extras, Upgrades - 20" 5 V spoke design polished titanium alloy wheels, Privacy glass, Dynamic ride control, Mobile phone preparation - High with Audi Connect, Adaptive cruise control, Audi active lane assist, Audi parking system advanced, Maximum speed limiter increased to 174 mph, Piano black finish inlay, Bang + Olufsen advanced sound system, Metallic paint, High beam assistant, Audi exclusive leather steering wheel rim, Fine nappa leather upholstery with front sports seats, Load area rail system and fixing kit, Hill hold control, Black styling pack - RS4, Performance pack, Reverse camera, Clifford alarm system built in to key, 24 hour monitored tracker system..."

Biased? Not at all - you just have excellent taste ;-)
Car is in the midlands at the moment, unfortunately it didn't make it's way down south before xmas (would've been one hell of a present to myself), but should hopefully be mine before New Years
Taste is not something I've ever been accused of possessing before.Car is in the midlands at the moment, unfortunately it didn't make it's way down south before xmas (would've been one hell of a present to myself), but should hopefully be mine before New Years
A car is of no use if you're pissed anyway so the wait is worthwhile.
To the guy who says he can't afford one, patience my friend, depreciation on these things means it's only a matter of time, another wait worthwhile if you ask me

In answer to the original question, you can't any longer spec the Alu pack, unless you go for the limited edition. I pick mine up on Jan 2, it's prism silver with black optics, black mirrors, sports pack (titanium rotors), tech pack, pan roof, B & O, side assist, privacy and a few other odds and sods I can't remember as it's so long since I specced the damn thing, can't wait!
A little bit of topic..
I'm a huge fan of the rs4, best looking estate ever made imo. I have a c63 wagon which is frustrating in these winter months...
Having read many reports of the b7 suffering from coking up and loosing a chunk of power... I am presuming the b8 will be the same or have they rectified it somehow??

Just stumbled upon this post at the time I'm looking to replace my 2012 RS4.
I understand the standard kit has changed a bit since mine arrived (one of the first to arrive in the UK).
The things I rue after these last 2 years/30K miles are firstly not getting the driver memory seats, and secondly speccing it with DRC. I didn't go with the Sports pack as I didn't like the Rotors which were were mandatory at the time nor the dynamic steering.
The main fault with this car, which I must admit I like rather than love, is the ride. The DRC in Dynamic is too firm, in Comfort too soft, and Auto too schizophrenic. It just never feels great. I heard that its a lot better on standard suspension.

I tend to agree having driven both DRC and non DRC, but it's pretty marginal in my experience and the residual value of non sport pack was a concern for me. What you going for next?I understand the standard kit has changed a bit since mine arrived (one of the first to arrive in the UK).
