Most reliable VAG diesel engine overall from 2006 to 2010 ?
Discussion
I'll be sad to see my 07 Octavia Elegance go soon, a 1.9 PD TDI with a dreaded BXE engine that spat out a conrod, as actually it was a great family car. Perfect sized interior for my family, huge boot and quite a nice drive. I'm getting the train to work at the moment but I expect that some when during the summer I'll buy another used Octavia with a diesel engine.
So considering that BXE's obviously have a design fault with all of the supporting evidence on the Internet, that the manufacturer will not acknowledge, if purchasing a Skoda with a registration date between 2006 and 2010 which diesel engine would others consider to be the most reliable especialy if expecting the car to hit 180/200,000 miles ?.
Thanks.

3.0 TDI and the later the better.
Very, very early ones (2004) had chain tensioner issues (very expensive), up to 2006 injector issues (quite expensive) and up to about 2009 a minor inlet manifold issue (cheap).
Regularly serviced they're incredibly tough, as is the 6 speed tiptronic box generally installed behind them.

How is the manual box that is mated to the 3.0 TDi? I'm almost tempted to try an A5 coupe, I think they're great looking cars and the engine seems interesting, concerned it might be a bit of a boring drive though.
The manual box does suffer from clutch judder. I bought mine second hand with 20k on it, and it juddered all the way to whe it sold it with 65k. Warranty would cover it as long as it wasn't worn, but they had to remove it to esthliash that. The A5 is also a bit low-rent inside. Mine had rattles-a-plenty.

Thanks. I don't mind the odd rattle, I am not too fussy with interiors overall but do like decent sound deadening due to poor hearing. The A5 is also a bit low-rent inside. Mine had rattles-a-plenty.
..A diesel makes no sense for me as I don't do many miles, but fancy something with some decent low down thrust; never had a diesel so would make a change. As said though, might be a bit boring/normal for me, even though I do like their looks.
..Sorry to OP for taking over the thread a bit!

2.0 CR 140 isn't bad either, a lot better than the PD units it replaced
I'm intrigued by this one, in general posts on the Internet seem to imply that the switch from PD to CR introduced more issues certainly compared to the earlier PD's (engines prior to the BXE and the final 1.9 PD that came after it)When you say 'a lot better than the PD units it replaced' do you mean all 1.9 PD's or just the last two (BXE and one other) ?.

In terms of actually living with it the CR is a much nicer engine. Far smoother, quieter and more refined compared to its predecessorsFor reliability it seems stronger than the 2.0 TDI PD140 (2004 - 2008) and the BXE 1.9 TDI.

I've owned a 2006 PD130 and a 2010 CR140When you say 'a lot better than the PD units it replaced' do you mean all 1.9 PD's or just the last two (BXE and one other) ?.
The CR is better in every way. The PD is a nasty, agricultural, tractor of an engine in comparision.
