By complete chance I have discovered my Alltrack is subject to a recall.

I was looking at cheapo local cars on Autotrader, and checking their MOT history on the https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/ website, when I noticed you can now see if they have any outstanding recalls. So I put my Passat reg in and it said there was a recall dated 15th of this month.

Anyone any idea what it may be?

I received a letter several months ago - I forget the issue, but it was fixed when booked in to the service.

VW say that the car may not tell you when a bulb is out.

This is a serious safety recall. I better not use the car until it is fixed. How I managed not to kill myself years ago, when my cars didn't tell me I had a blown bulb, I have no idea.

Will be buying a new family car in the new year and the Alltrack is on the shortlist to take a closer look at.

Would be good to hear any views from this thread on how it's performed as a family car.

Ideally would like the 190bhp DSG, but not ruling out the 150bhp manual. Spec wise, am I right in thinking that they come relatively well spec'd as standard?

From my autotrader research, only real priority would be to find one with the premium LED lights as from past experience VW halogens aren't great.

Have a read of this thread - as a large family car it does the job, but if you enjoy driving at all, avoid the DSG - never have I driven a car where everything has an annoying delay to it.

ETA - though I have not driven the manual.

I find the auto super smooth for normal driving, it's not a car to thrash around, but it's massive! Loads of kit and really comfortable, can't fault it what so ever, it serves its purpose superbly (especially with teh 4 wheel drive!)

Whatever mode it is in, it always feels like it is in the wrong gear and is indecisive - I end up in Sport mode all the time, but then it feels like it is over-reving Around town it is terrible - you have to make sure stop-start is turned off, otherwise pulling out of a junction or roundabout is a leap of faith, especially if you are moving slightly - I have had it turn off the engine coming up to a junction, so the steering has locked up and by the time the engine has restarted, it has decided what gear it needs to be in and the turbo has spooled up, you are in danger of being wiped out and you cannot turn the way you want to go!

It has a great ride though and you don't need to slow down too much for speed bumps.

Ha. Ours likes to 'stall' as we are still slowing down to stop at traffic lights.
Literally, it just turns off a couple of metres before we actually stop. It's fking dreadful.

Part of my starting routine is turning off the auto start-stop.

From previous posts it looks as if £280-350 is a typical range. ie. not really worth doing.

Had it serviced yesterday for a very reasonable sum of £129 and they filled the ad blue up too. They originally quoted £189, I told them another garage quoted £149 and somehow when he gave me the bill, it was £129.
Tyres are at 3 mm on the front which is a bit annoying. Too late to swap the fronts/backs?

Is that the VW dealers 3mm - have you checked them yourself?

Great price on the service!

Hi guys,
This is Jose from Portugal. I am thinking about buying one Passat Alltrack this year.
I have two questions if you can help me:
1-Are the Nappa leather seats worth it or are the regular alltrack ones more than enough?
2-Do you have any suggestions about equipment you recommend or about the car ir general?

Many thanks and I wish you all an excellent 2018!!

upto 18k miles and have a message pop up that I need an "Oil Service" in next 900 miles.

Had a look at VW website and I can book a "DSG oil change " for £179.00
Is this what is required?
Is that price about right?
cheers

No, you just select "Service" from the main menu. DSG Service is for the gearbox oil - I doubt you'll need this.

Has anyone obtained a price yet to purchase the car?
Mine isn't eligible until March but I think a few people on here received theirs much earlier than myself.
