If ours is a B8, does that mean there have been 8 versions of the Passat?
Let's see...http://bfy.tw/9qkN
Can't say I have, no.
Adblue update. Just ticked over onto 15k and have had to open my second 20l container of the stuff. Topped it up as much as I can and range is showing 6.5k miles.
So, fag packet maths. 15k - 6.5k is 8.5k miles, so I've used one full 20l container to go 8.5k (assuming it was full on delivery) or 2.5l per 1000 miles.
Also, seeing as I'm talking about running costs, my long term average mpg is 41.7... must admit I was hoping for more, given my commute is 50 miles each way almost entirely motorway.

In other news I took a Superb Sportline 2.0 TSI (220) out for a test drive today. Surprisingly pokey actually and also solves all the issues I have with the engine/drivetrain/throttle on the Passat. Only reason I took a 220 out was there's no 280s available locally.
Its nice and smooth, there's no dead zone in the power delivery and other than that the interior is excellent, lovely materials. Only downside is the cruise is a stalk like an old BMW but hey wotevs.
So, I really like it and it's a strong contender.
The only issue was the laughable figures from my initial obligatory pre haggle chat post test drive:

This car is turning me into a bit of a moaner now.
Does it piss anyone else off that you have to reselect Sport mode every time you get in it? Even if through the drive mode button by the gearstick you select Sport, when you leave the car and return, it's back in Normal mode despite still showing on the mode display that you are in Sport? Just a bit shoddy if you ask me.

Is that corrosion on the alloy in the top right of the picture or just dirt?
It's muck If I was buying one of these new myself, I would look at 12 month old examples to see if this type of corrosion were evident. Then I'd preventatively paint them with black hammerite.
Did that with an MX5 I bought new and it preserved the visible metalwork around that area very well, including the calipers.

You tapped change and then set all the options for Sport etc?
When I start the engine, my Alltrack will be in individual mode and the gears will be in D, but as soon as I flick the gear lever back, the gears will go into S.
Yes but is that not missing the point? At any point I can flick it back into S. The point is individual mode is in sport, the car says I'm in individual mode so should be in sport, but the car isn't. Indeed. These kind of software usability issues should be picked up very early in testing. Rubbish!
As much as a liked this car when it first turned up the drivetrain niggles and other little irritants have mounted to the point now where I can't wait to give it back and get myself into something decent.
Although I will say I am grateful for the cheap motoring, and still say the car is lovely inside and out. It's just a shame about, well, everything we've been moaning about
