Not that anyone really buys an R for economy but I was pleasantly surprised to see yesterday and today that on my morning commute (think M25 traffic at 60 for the most part and a couple of A roads) MPG of just over 40! Average is still around 33 which I think is pretty good too.
I've been managing some better economy on mine. I mostly drive in eco mode, as there's not much of an opportunity to get race mode going on a 4 mile trip to work.
I managed 40.4mpg to the airport on country roads/A roads, the struggle was real. The economy is improving as the mileage creeps up. Great for me smile

Is this a good deal or do you think I could get better?
Is this the metallic Limestone Grey you speak of???

Can you confirm who this deal is with and a point of contact also please, im onto this sharpish as its now my preffered colour after Lapiz Blue seems to be everywhere (not that it isnt a stunning colour still) and i currently have a PB ST220, not done greys before!

Signed up for the Golf R 2.0 TSI 3DR DSG NAV, 6k miles, Deep Black metallic Paint, Net App Connect.

Vehicle Savers.

£252pm (3+23) inc vat.

Been late in posting this as I was having issues with the credit side due to a number of flags but the deal on the website and all over pistonheads was £272.

However, I got a call offering it at that price with maintenance and I acted interested. I asked for a quote with and without maintenance and went with the lower price without maintenance smile - £252

I think the deals are gone - this was from some 2/3 weeks ago before the rush! I was late is posting as I was sat in the credit queue so to speak and had to appeal.

Am I too late for an estate at a good price?

All the brokers are still advertising but a few have come back to me saying VW have run out.

Will they come back around once some more come in to stock?

Has anyone figured out driving modes versus exhaust noise. Mine is a bit surprising. In Eco I get quite a throaty sound with upchnage noises, normal nothing and race adds the in cabin noise. Overall I like what it does but have found the internal noise to be annoying. I probably expected more exhaust noise if I am honest... Thoughts?

For existing R owners who are financed with VWFS and who are coming to end of their lease (mines is due to go back November)

I am debating whether to extend the GOLF R or go for the cupra black deal. To help make my mind up, i thought i would investigate extension options on my current lease.

Have others found VWFS are receptive to lease extension greater then 3 months on reasonable terms?

I spoke with VWFS this morning, and they said they can informally extend 3 months on the same monthly, but any longer and they need to formally quote and the monthly figure would go up or down, but he couldn't confirm till i formally request this.

Just wondering, what others experience was?

so come on then lads, what reversible chip/map are we all fitting??
You can't get it mapped. It leaves traces on the ECU which VW check for.

The only option you have is a tuning box fitted in the engine bay.

Have only had mine since 10am this morning and only driven around 20 miles but the fake boxer noise in normal and race is too much. Have set the individual setting to normal minus the engine noise and it improves things, have also adjusted the steering to comfort as felt the normal setting was just artificially heavy, with no extra feel.

Sorting Insurance tonight.

Got a quote several weeks back at £360 odd. Did it again last night (via 2 x comparison sites) and the best offer was £391. Wonder if people would blame that on Brexit too rolleyesbiggrin

Best price was with Privilege (used them before for hot hatches back in the day). 8 yrs NCB. Age 43. Nottingham. Doesn't seem too bad when the Fez ST was low £300's.

Have seen some posts here and there of £200+ insurance but i'm guessing location plays a great part.

Collection tomorrow afternoondriving

Is anyone else having issues with the finance side of things?

My car has been on site in Swansea Sinclair for three weeks now and I cant pick it up because theres an 'issue with the pricing' on VWFS side which means they cant supply the contract. The dealer reckons theres a huge back log of incorrect prices they're working through? Thats why theres a massive delay. Luckily he's already confirmed with VWFS that my original quote figures will be honoured. Is anyone else experiencing problems? Or ordered through Swansea? To be fair the whole order process has been s*** from start to finish with Swansea.

Craig, i'm in the same boat as you. I'll assume yours is the white one!
The whole process has been rubbish like you have said.

Came here to post what i had from the dealer this morning:

Hello Dean,

Really sorry about this but I am still unable to print the documents.

VWFS are in a real mess to the extent that they have so many pricing problems that they have stopped answering the phones to clear the back log of issues. I did call another department yesterday and they told me that the prices were incorrect on the original quote so all this time when we have been trying to get the prices to match they were getting matched to an incorrect figure.

This has now been rectified and I am waiting for VW to match the price to the new figures (does not effect your quote).

This is embarrassing for us but we can not do anything until we are able to print the contract which means VWFS need to resolve this.

Once we get the contract I will send it over to you.

Once again really sorry about this………..Chris.

Haha thats funny, I recieved exactly the same email this morning only with 'Hello Craig' at the top.

Yes mate I've ordered the white one, what colour did you get?

On the last email he sent he said its as if VW know they've made a mistake with the initial low pricing and are delaying things hoping the customer will cancel? I find this hard to believe knowing that other lads on the forum have already recieved their cars with no issues. It sounds like they are making excuses for some balls up. He did say that he hopes to have the issue sorted by Tuesday.

Yeah the whole process has been a nightmare so far, hardly any communication, no reply to emails etc.

Are you local? Have you been in to speak in person?

At least they're both there!
This is the first id heard of the problems with VWFS. That picture was taken a week before i was going away and i asked if they could rush it through so that i could take it off their hands before i went, no mention of anything problems in the reply. That was the 4th july.. i emailed him twice afterwards with questions about whats happening and only had a reply on the 18th of july!

I asked about what they were going to do with regards to the first f*** up with the ordering and he said 'i'll put a bit of extra fuel in for you'.

It really is taking the biscuit, no one else has ha these problems by the sounds of it.

I'm in Neath, so pretty local but have been away since the 9th. How about you?

Yeah similar thing to you, im off work all this week so emailed him to ask if we can get it sorted while im off work, that was the first time I'd heard of an issue.

After he sent that email this morning I thought he was hinting that the prices had been increased so I nipped it in the bud saying if they had gone up, i wouldnt be having the car. He also said he was hoping to get it sorted this month at the latest for their 'numbers' otherwise VW will be on their back.

I havent asked about any good will gestures yet, but i will do.

I live 2 hours away in Milford Haven so cant really just nip in and see them. Otherwise I'd be in every couple of days chasing them. So only phone and email contact for me which is even more frustrating.

I spoke with Cardiff VW for a bit whilst Chris was away and the service was a million times better, instant replies, really helpful etc. Ive asked Swansea several times about part exing my current car and im still waiting for an answer.

Atleast you've seen the cars, sort of lol

Hardly been the best experience! One email he says that he will have the paperwork over to me tomorrow, the next he is saying that he's waiting on Cardiff to send him the paperwork and then he says he can't print it because VWFS have messed up. I don't think we're getting the full story here!

Very frustrating, considering the cancelation of the initial orders and then this.

Feel free to PM me if you want to chat about sorting this out and getting something extra from them.

Hi all. I saw a deal for £191 pm including VAT for the estate version about a month ago. Unfortunately I was not ready to pull the trigger. Now I am. Does anyone know of any comparable deals out there?

Another one collected here, which has been christened Toothless by my kids, who are obsessed with "How to Train Your Dragon", as it is Night (fury) Blue... Great service from the folks at TL Darby in Burton throughout the process and I am very happy with the car so far - it drives very differently to my old Vectra VXR, despite the power and weight figures being similar on paper. I have only managed 50 miles, but I think this is going to be a nice way to spend the next couple of years!

Night blue really suits the estate R,
