Got my build date week commencing 8th May.
Hoping I get the car before I go away on the 12th June - think its going to be very tight! I'm sure it will want a nice run through part of france!
I got the same build week as well, seems like they will all be coming over on the same transporter :-)Hoping I get the car before I go away on the 12th June - think its going to be very tight! I'm sure it will want a nice run through part of france!

I would have thought all of us who did it through VW dealers will get them around a similar time, especially as most are just standard trim with no options.
Bit disappointed the seats don't have the grey alacantra any more and its now black, but I will live with it for two years! or maybe 3 if I decide to extend the lease depending on the price.

Sorry for the noob questions, is it always possible to extend the lease? Is it possible to buy the car from the lease company too? (I know this used to be possible for company vehicle leasing at my current employer).Bit disappointed the seats don't have the grey alacantra any more and its now black, but I will live with it for two years! or maybe 3 if I decide to extend the lease depending on the price.

Yes and yes (although I did read that they sometimes won't sell the car to the leaser for some reason)gazza5 said:

On the top bit, it's not necessarily the case. I ordered mine on a Thursday, through a dealer in Kettering, I gave details of my deal, and was ordered by the guy I gave the details of my deal to on the Friday. He got his 8 days before I got mine... I talked to VW Gatwick fleet team and booked a test drive for Monday. Not 100% sure it's FL version. But pre-FL will do as well. Was redirected from sales team to fleet team as soon as I said I want to lease it. At least there was no bs.. and fleet team member was helpful.
Either will give you a good idea, you'll just get a bonus if you buy a FL and tried a pre-FL.I have to say I've never driven ANY Golf, so it's going to be a new experience for me
I decided that so many positive reviews can't all be wrong, so I'm buying blind.
Probably not the best approach, but, heh, it's only two years if I DON'T like it
To be honest, I grew tired of dealing with sales people who gave the impression they were doing me a favour even allowing me to discuss the possibility of buying one of their cars! I did have one very positive experience with Moorelands in Basingstoke (used car dealer), who just gave me the cars to an XF S and said "Off you go!", but they were the exception to the rule.
On Monday I popped over to a local VW dealer so the wife could take a look at an R.
They had a used one on their forecourt, so I asked if we could just take a look around it (I didn't say I was leasing, but equally didn't say I was looking to buy - I said I wanted to take a look at it). Although there was a young chap there, we were told we'd have to wait for the sales woman to come back from a test drive ("about 20 minutes") and immediately asked "Are you looking to buy now?"
I appreciate they probably get a lot of tyre kickers, but how the hell are you supposed to get any idea of whether a car suits your needs, when you need to provide 6 months bank statements and a recommendation from a peer of the realm ( ), before they'll let you even sit in a used car?
Needless to say, we didn't bother leaving our details - We'll just wait for mine to turn up.
I've looked at enough Golf Rs and Golf estates in other guises to know it'll suit me well enough.

I'm looking to replace Audi S8 so I have to test any candidate to make sure I will be able to live with it. I have driven rented Golf 7 in Norway once, that's it.
VWFS told me I can't get Audi extension quote until I'm in last 6 months so don't know what they will offer and looking at other cars just in case. Also wouldn't mind getting something more practical than limousine without folding seats.

Yeah, I wasn't recommending my approach VWFS told me I can't get Audi extension quote until I'm in last 6 months so don't know what they will offer and looking at other cars just in case. Also wouldn't mind getting something more practical than limousine without folding seats.
I've got a Mazda RX-8, so (whilst very different to an S8) I suspect the Golf will be just as different from my current car, but I've tried Audi S3s and quite liked them and all the reviews are much more positive about the Golf R.
I too really need something more practical (to cart around dive gear - I discounted the Golf hatch as too small) and the Golf R Estate seems to have all the bases covered.
I guess I'll find out in a couple of months

I drove a golf in Tenerife - think it was a 1.2 tsi se manual - no other experiance of them apart from a mate of mine's wife has a company car 1.4 tsi which he highly rates.
Maybe should have tried one - but waited around before and not got the deal so just went for it - its 2 years so think I can put up with it before getting something else.

I have a MY2016 Golf GTD 5 dr which goes back in June. I didn't know much about it when I ordered it but I needed something quick when my company car went back so when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The Golf just does everything really well. It's quite a nice cabin to be in and it handles reasonably well. If I drive at a steady 65/70 then I can get a return of 60mpg+ which is pretty good IMHO. But now is the time for the R as I am sick of diesels be it the sound or the smell. I'm looking forward to a returning to petrol, my last petrol car was a Honda Accord Type R which was brilliant.

I completely get you there. I have a 2013 Mk7 GT and it has been an outstanding success, but I too want to return to petrol. The Mk7 is really everything I need in a car right now, but a bit more oomph and handling would be very welcome. A Golf R would very much hit the spot for me. PenelopaPitstop said:

Wow I bet that will take some replacing! Did you get the epic (and that's a word I think is far overused) deal last year?VWFS told me I can't get Audi extension quote until I'm in last 6 months so don't know what they will offer and looking at other cars just in case. Yes, it was epic S8 deal from 2015 :-) (around £11800 for 2 years) So looking for best possible deal to replace it if extension price is ridiculous.
Yep its about what I am paying for an S5 at the moment and its a good deal, that S8 deal was just crazy. Just wish it had been about 10 months later, happy as I am with the S5 would have liked the extra 170bhp and two cylinders!Gassing Station | Audi, Seat, Skoda & VW | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
