Tbh I prefer the old seats - think it will be very black in the cabin - may change my mind when I see it though.

Any decent Golf R Hatchback / estate deals popping up yet?

What would you expect to be a good deal (realistically) on lease 24 months 8k miles?

Do you all think it will be a long wait for some good deals?

Hi guys, I've extended my lease up to 3yrs (Jun-18) and I'm close to having to replace the front tyres (almost 17k miles). I wasn't sure if I had to use the manufacturer approved tyres as it's a lease car.

I've had a look on blackcircles and the potenzas are £99 a corner fitted. This seems pretty reasonable, the other option is to stick some michelins on the front as they are only £6 more. I had a car with michelins before and when I changed to a cheaper brand there was noticeably less grip...

Anybody already changed tyres, and what did you go for?

End of the quarter is usually the time. No guarantees though.

Haven't seen anything since the last crop a few months back.

I have a white estate due next month (no options) on a 6 x 23 deal at £250 a month on an 8k pa deal.

There is a chance that I might not proceed though as the stop gap I bought I'm really enjoying.

Trying to work it out, so will keep you posted if I change my mind. I'm sure there is a way to do it.

That's a good deal! Hopefully we will see something like that again in the near future.

I think vw should have changed the alloys on the facelift cars , they were just about ok on the old model but facelift deserves a nicer alloy

Insurance.. (not sure if this is the right section but its for the golf R)

Looking to lease a new R so decided to get some insurance quotes. I know its very specific, but i live low crime rate, 20yr ncb, no claim no points, you get the idea.

Getting quotes of £550, where if i change car to previous model its half the price, £275.

I've not paid insurance like that since I was 18.

Just wondering if other people have seen huge jumps in price with the new R ?

Not Sure If Anybody Is Aware Looking At Configuring The Golf R You Can Now Purchase The 'R Performance Pack' In The UK At £2300.

R Performance Pack: 19" 'Spielberg' alloy wheels, performance brakes, derestricted top speed and performance rear spoiler (spoiler on hatch only)

Any Thoughts?

Sounds dear for what it is! EDIT but nothing like as much of a rip of as the £2975 exhaust!

Way overpriced for what it offers. If there was some extra power on offer (even a small bump to 320bhp) then it would be much more compelling.

Also, for 19" alloys the Pretorias look waaaaaaay better than the Spielberg ones, IMO.

I’m new to Pistonheads membership but I have used it regularly over the years and have found most of the advice/opinions to be very sound. This Thread has been particularly useful as I’ve been looking at getting a Golf R for a few months. I finally made the decision on 24 March following the Facelift launch.
I’ve gone for a 5-door, DSG, Indium Grey with sunroof. I did look at leasing (especially as some of you have got amazing deals) but I don’t need (or are that bothered about) a new car every 2 years, rather 5-6 is OK with me, so by buying the ownership years 3-6 will save me money over consecutive leasing periods. Also, I get use out of the extras that I wanted rather than buying them for the next owner. That is the theory anyway and I guess it comes down to Horses- for- Courses anyway.
My contribution to this conversation is with regards to delivery times; at order (24 March) I was told 12-14 weeks, the Tracker shows “with the factory” but having now checked on Live Chat (a good PH tip) I have now been told that the build is week 30 (24 Jul); at this rate I might as well put it on a 67 plate. Has anyone else having this long to wait or perhaps they have run out of the colour and the bloke who cuts a hole in the roof is on holiday. Seems ridiculous to wait 4-5 months for a Golf.
I guess the silver-lining is that I’m PX’ing my old car on a fixed deal so the extra time will be depreciation-free motoring and the dealer will take the hit.
I’m sure it will be worth the wait.

I ordered 6th April got order number on 11th April. This is for a lease of 256 a month for 10k miles deposit 1500. It's a standard estate white paint. Car is built and in transit according to vw tracker.

There was talk of delays on 5 door.

My ins is double for the golf r instead of my diesel astra but that's to be expected.

I had my tires replaced by VW at the first service (19,000 miles). I went from the original Bridgestones to Goodyear Eagle F1 (Assymetrical 2 or maybe 3 I can't remember exactly) at £400 fitted. I could've got away with another months wear but £400 seemed like a reasonable deal, esp. as it meant I didn't have to bother shopping around and taking it in again a month later to get them changed. As usual I didn't manage to get a penny off the price (I'm not a good haggler, I think people can tell my heart's not in it!)

They feel much the same as the originals but having said that I don't really drive fast enough round corners to notice the difference. No difference in road noise or anything like that though.

The only unusual thing was that at the time of changing, the front tires had 2.5mm tread left but the rears were down to 1.2mm. I don't know why this is, it's presumably a mostly FWD car with the rears only coming in to play if the fronts lose grip?
The guy at VW tried to tell me the drivetrain was rear-biased, but I don't see how that can be right...

Not a new facelift Golf R (mine's a 16-plate estate), but my renewal letter came through last week. Got 4yrs NCB instead of 3 this year, all other details exactly the same. Well, I'm 38 now but apart from that; no claims, no convictions, yet my premium has gone from £630 to £885!!!

I've since shopped around but can't find lower than £668. It's a bit annoying, I thought I'd be able to shave a bit off last years premium, but I guess in the past year, a lot of Mk 7 R's have been nicked and that's bound to filter through to premiums fairly quickly. Thieving scumbags!!. And the car thieves are almost as bad too wink

EDIT: I have to have business insurance too which bumps the price up. I'm sure its a fair bit cheaper if you're not driving 25,000 miles per year.

Just checked my order status and it's showing in transit and estimate 10 days away but I don't want it until my BMW goes back 3rd week in June.

After seeing this post I got an insurance quote and please to see it's coming out £20 cheaper than my BMW at £259, need to look for gap insurance now.

Ours must be on the same boat mate.
Hoping to have the car in the next 2 weeks.
