The long standing rumour is there'll be a VWFS funded deal at the beginning of July. Can't confirm either way...
And if it doesn't happen in July, then it will then be October! I *THINK* it is just based on when VWFS release their deals. But then again the 1.4 TFSI A4 Sline and Black Editions (Sports had been around for ages) appeared after the 1st of April so it may not be that rigid with when they do the deals?

I don't think we will see deals like past deals - maybe a deal similar to the estate but I think VW are learning there lesson on residuals. It will potentially be smaller batches of cars - rumour has it 200 estates were on the last lease in april.

I know they are in the game to sell cars - but there is a lot of interest in the 1.5 tsi evo engine (which comes with 7 speed dsg). After the VW fiasco with the golf gti (see GTI lease thread) - I don't thjnk there will be any R deals come July. Its already a 12-16 week wait for Golf R's depending on spec.

I maybe completely wrong, but that's just my opinion.

When the first deals came out there was a 26 week wait! But I think they hammered the resale value too hard with the silly leases they had before so I don't think it will happen again.

On the flip side the used market is started to get flooded with Golf R's, so thats another option

"Flooded" - Where?

Only 2 pages of results for "Golf R" on Autotrader (and half those aren't even Rs! biggrin)

Check the PH classifieds, loads available.

The cheap leases they did have really messed up the prices of used cars, though higher spec cars are doing better than standard spec cars.

Having said that the 16% discounts you can get on a new one from a dealer aren't helping much either, why would you buy a nearly new car when for just a bit more you can have a brand new one.

Residuals are really poor right now on these (and this is from someone who has a new Golf R on order)

7 pages on the VW used car search, Mk7 R over a year old. Most conveniently just over two years old.....

I cant see how you wouldn't think the market would be flooded since there are (or have been) a lot of them on lease. The thing I think that is silly about it is that they make you pay in full for the options on the cars, when most people looking for a 2 year old used Golf R would be wanting a bit of spec on them (Blue with 19"s I would imagine, with nav) rather than them being bog standard.

I dont think you have looked, do a search and you will see plenty. I suspect those who did the September deals will be returning their leases so in the next 3-4 months Id expect even more.

My peasant spec Estate arrived today. Really pleased with it all in. Not quite as quick as I'd hoped - but I am dropping down a few bhp with the golf. Hopefully it will loosen up a bit more.

Sounds like a Subaru flat 4 that's been a bit muffled in race.
Nice kit, nice enough place to be, plenty of space for what I need.
Ride and brakes are the high points for me in the first 100 miles.

Must have done something on the previous search, because, yes, I'm seeing far more now.

I guess with these kind of lease offers (on any car), you'll get spikes in availability. There were (I believe) 200-250 R Estates recently offered, most of these will come onto the used market in a couple of years, but unless there's a regular flow of good deals, presumably they will then slow to a trickle and prices may well stabilise.

PS Was Nav an option on the pre-facelift R? I looked at a few new-ish Skoda Octavia vRSs at the beginning of the year and only the most recent ones had Nav as standard, which put me off buying one as the premium for a newer car was quite high.

A friend of mine has a non facelift R estate with no options and it has the full Nav system.

Yeah, I anticipated this when I bought mine so got a decent discount and plan to keep it for at least 5 years.

Pumping out loads on cheap leases and PCP deals (to the extent where 5-6 month build waits are typical) is obviously going to lead to an abundant supply of said vehicle 2-3 years cars down the line. A lot of owners living in la-la-land about residual values though.

I'll bet those PCP deals will be hurting VW Finance too in light of poorer than predicted residuals - though good news for the buyers as they can hand the cars back at the end of the deal having paid less than the depreciation.

The reason that options add so much to lease and PCP deals is that they generally add little to nothing to the resale value of the car so the person taking the deal is expected to pay for them entirely over the 2-3 years.

Some optional extras do have a residual value, typically OEM Nav, DSG and the 19" 'Pretoria' Alloys (which are ludicrously expensive but easily the best wheel design available, IMO) so they don't add quite as much to a monthly payment as you don't have to amortise the full cost of them.

The smaller screen Discovery Nav became standard on the pre-facelift about 6 months before the facelift was released, presumably to provide an incentive to shift older stock. Before that, it was an option.

I specced it on mine (Along with the Dynaudio) as I thought it was a massive oversight not to have a decent Nav system built in to the highest-end Golf.

Another thing to watch out for is that only the later Discovery Navs (from about mid-2016 onwards) are Apple Carplay/Android Auto compatible and it was an option on the basic Nav (but you can enable it for £100 at the dealer). Well worth having as then you can use Google Maps which is free and always updated, plus it's great for podcasts and audiobooks.

I'm looking to purchase a two year old golf R in August, to run as my company car (cash allowance) for a few years. Huge amount to choose from with low miles, and keen prices! Not bothered about options (leather would be nice I suppose) and want it in red ideally, which appears to have been popular. Will change wheels anyway, and prefer to use my phone for navigation (already got a VW with built in sat nav that I don;t use)!

On the MK7's red was the only free colour I think, where as on the 7.5's the free colour is now white smile

Have been in a C6 A6 for a couple of months as a stop gap, but spent the previous 18months in a 65 plate S4 avant.

Not entirely correct there I don't think. They swapped the free colour from red to white on the pre facelift IIRC, I'm guessing mid 2016

Ah ok, it's only as my friends Golf estate is red and was one of the last R's before they closed the books smile
