Yes good point, it can't have been £13k deposit - that must have been the optional final payment.

Just configured an estate R as per my lease deal on the VW site model and it quotes:

47 monthly payments of: £461.52
Deposit: £3,598
Duration: 48 months
Average miles per year: 10,000
Deposit Contribution: £1,500
Retailer cash price: £35,980
Acceptance fee*: £0
Optional final payment: £13,429.80

So this would cost £25,289 over 4 years.

It seems weird that the heaviest depreciation will occur in the first two years but the lease deal only costs £8k inc fees for that time.

I guess you can haggle big discounts when you buy it, and maybe the vehicle is worth more than the optional final payment when you get to that point...

I negotiated £6k off my current 7R on a PCP and it worked out better than the lease deals at the time. £3k down, £342 a month, £15k Optional Final Payment.

15 months on, I'm now in £1450 positive equity. I've had so many issues with mine I want to change to a 7.5R but it means putting another £2.5k deposit down and starting a new 4 year deal which I'm loathed to do even though I love the Golf R as a car and can't see anything else that suits my needs!

Current DTD price on a base R estate is £29751, it was similar back when I leased mine 18 months ago.

VW finance calculator for 10k/year, 4 year PCP gives £13429 GMFV. 4.8% APR (which the discount is conditional on taking).

So assuming you put down £1800 deposit (similar to lease inc admin fee), that's £386pm.

About £5k a year over the 4 years. Would you get more than £13429 for it after that time? Who knows.

Has anyone heard anything from CVL on their Golf R orders from the other week?

Not sure if I mentioned it here or on the Best Deals thread, but I chased them for an order number which they sent yesterday. Order is tracking on the VW website with a build date of w/c 31/7.

Does anyone know why VW periodically release these low price Golf R Estate lease deals?

I've just booked one for £300/month (1+23 no deposit). That's half the price VW advertise contract hire on their website, and the local dealer could only offer a crazy expensive PCP deal: £13k deposit followed by £500/month for four years after which you still have to buy the car or return it.

Have they overproduced this model, or are they trying to get more out on the roads for marketing purposes?
CVL are doing the S3 sportback (a small estate?) for £3000 + 24 x £245

Got my VW order number from broker today. Happy man! Just hoping these stories of people houses getting broken into are small exceptions not the rule 😂

S3 Sportback has a smaller boot than a regular Golf hatch, 353L vs 340L. It's no estate car.

£45k+ spec I would imagine, I don't know how much the buckets are.

That interior will be a custom job. Seats will have been from a MK6 R or such like and retrimmed. Plus they don't look like the Akrapovic tips to me.

Really wishing I jumped on the R when I had the chance, ended up being a bit more sensible and got a 5 door GTI DSG with special solid paint. 24 months, 8kpa at £230 a month with a 6 up front.

I must admit I'm just starting to get to grips with mine.

It's a stonkingly quick car and has impressive grip and good handling, although it seems to lack the pure balance of my RX8 (you can just about feel the power move around and counter the understeer) in the dry.

Amazingly sure footed in the wet (I'm hoping we get lots of snow this winter, it could be a lot of fun smile ) and reasonably refined.

I'm certainly happy enough with my decision (loving the boot space and the range too!), but I'm not sure it's a car I'm going to 'love'.

I think that may come, but with more time and experience.

After lot's of hassle and disappointment I've finally managed to secure a Golf R Estate on 3+23 10K @ £290.40 today.

Not the cheapest I've seen on here but I'm happy with that.

12 weeks is going to seem like an eternity!

The golf R is not great in the snow. When the front loses grip it send power to the back and the back steps out. I fitted Nokian winter tyres and it was 100 times better. Couple of months left on my lease watch out for back brakes as they wear far quicker than the fronts. I had to replace rear pads and discs at 18,000 miles. Great car and enormous grip.

With TC on, it'll brake the rear wheels to keep grip, so if you're driving hard you'll wear them down fast. I always have my TC in Sport as it stops this from happening. smile

Had the same problem with Octavia VRS estate previously. The scoring on the discs was horrendous.

For anyone who thinks these can't be economical I think it depends on your journeys......

Mine (R estate DSG) is now 13 months and 12k miles in, and over the last 1,400 miles (admittedly a lot of that was motorways but still in some traffic) I've just averaged 45.4mpg.....

That's mighty impressive, and not even the 7.5 with the 7spd box
