That said, if i was to be offered a policy to cover 4yrs at a £60 premium that would basically guarantee me to be thousands, even 10's of thousands of ££'s better off in the event of a total loss, then i'd very likely bag myself one of those, to date however i've not witnessed this level of free money being offered by any such company.
I took back to invoice GAP when I bought a new BMW 325Ci around 14 years ago. 2 years and 10 months after buying the car my wife aquaplaned on the M62 and the car was written off. I received exactly what I paid for it, minus the small excess for making the claim on my main insurance. Never thought I'd be so happy having a car written off. anonymous said:

I also learnt the hard way as I went into the back of someone at a roundabout in my GTD whilst approaching at slow speed. Luckily neither cars were damaged but goes to show you definitely can't rely on the radar for all situations. Wonder if it has improved on the facelift at all.w8pmc said:
As i originally said, i've no interest in GAP Insurance, in fact none of the 'extra' policies dealers & the like peddle, however if they work for some people then fair enough.

I however am happy to be proved wrong & would (assuming i hadn't hired/leased) certainly sign up for such a policy in the paragraph above.
Yeah, went back and checked and it was actually £245 including tax - more than I remembered (maybe I was thinking £60 per year) but still pretty cheap considering it covers me up to a total difference of £22.5k (between insurers payout and invoice) and valid for 4 years. It had to be taken out within a relatively short time period after purchase of the car, looks I bought it just under a month after I took delivery of the car.

At low speeds the parking sensors take over - they should have been beeping away. However, they won't brake the car for you like the main system does.anonymous said:

The parking sensors are definitely active at low speed (maybe at high ones too but if you get close enough at that speed it's probably a crash) - I often get them beeping at drive-throughs when close enough to the car in front/ behind. As for low speeds, makes sense that the emergency braking isn't going to kick in at parking speeds otherwise you'd get it slamming on all the time when parking close to something in front.

This does happen. Even when reversing if you get too close the car will stop, you then have to manually start it again by re=pressing the accelerator.I've found de-activating auto hold helps when trying to get super close.

Does anybody know how to have the satnav on and still play spotify from your phone?
The infotainment system seems to have a mind of it's own!
Having the nav in the instrument cluster while playing Spotify in the centre display seems to work for me.The infotainment system seems to have a mind of it's own!

I still haven't found a way to enter postcodes into Nav, which is a proper pain. Someone here suggested there was a 'Pstcd' button on the display when entering but I can't find it.

Ive caught my bumper on a post right by the rear sensor - the car does not stop on its own parking. Its simply not true.
Sorry. But mine does. I have to reverse park every night and do the same drill because the sensors get confused with the bushes and it stops too far forward. Then I have to push it past its 'stop' point. Hard to explain but mine definitely brakes on it's own if I'm too far into the red on the sensors.

GTI rather than R, but the system is the same & have the same thing as Tonker. Red warning pings when it really doesn't need to and doesn't always work when it might. Having said that, IIRC, 18mph Max is the window, at the best of times. ACC is a bit the same - 98% great in the Mk8, good in the 7, but room for improvement, as they say. Then again, worked marvellously in a Spanish cab the other year, possibly a bit/lot too much.

I think you must be thinking and talking about the collision detection system. That's the system that will put the red car symbol on your dash and if you're close enough and do not react, stand on the brakes. I've read elsewhere that it will not detect stationary objects therefore won't brake for you. The minimum speed is 20mph the same as ACC but obviously if you have a DSG car it will work at lower speeds whilst in traffic - I don't know how.I'm talking about the standard parking sensors whilst parking at low speeds. On my car those will put the brakes on if you let it get too far into the red zone on the display.
Again, I'm not talking about ACC, radar cruise, collision systems etc. Just the normal parking sensors.
