I've had 4 or 5 Mk 7 golfs and none of them have ever stopped me from parking at slow speeds due to sensors, at best the collision warnings have beeped when people pull out at roundabouts.
Is this an auto hold thing? I'm onto my third MK7 Golf and all of them have prevented me from driving into walls at low speed. I even use the system to ensure I'm as far into my garage as can be. The collision avoidance certainly seems lacking...

Any one able to help... car was delivered Friday. Absolutely fantastic, however the wing mirrors have stopped folding in on demand from the mirror control switch?
They still fold when I lock and unlock the car so not entirely sure!
Sounds like an issue with the switch on the door, probably worth a trip to the dealerThey still fold when I lock and unlock the car so not entirely sure!

Stupid question but going to ask , how good are the xenon lights please? Live out in the sticks and there is no street lighting for the 50 mile commute to work , I've had xenons before but never vw and have had ones that have been poor before, are these decent enough?
I find them decent enough, the LEDs on the 7.5 are better though IMOSabertheo said:

The latest LED's on the 7.5 are excellent, best lights I've had in a car so far!Sabertheo said:

The Xenons are pretty decent. They do have a pretty sharp cutoff point though, beyond which you will see very little. Not an issue on full beam but on dipped it might be if you are going a little too quick.Hi guys, short term lurker here, but have to say, this has been a really useful thread.
Just wanted some advice on my upcoming Golf R estate. The dealer is offering service and maintenance at £10.31+vat per month for the 2 year lease period.
I'm on a 5k pa lease and expect to do about this mileage.
From what i've seen, I should just get away with 1 service during the 2 years and this service should cost c.£200-250. So if this is the case, I figure it's not worth me taking the service and maintenance packages as this would cost £296.93 over the 2 years?
Does this sound about right in everyone's experience?
Thanks

It all depends if you're going to burn through a pair or a set of tyres.Just wanted some advice on my upcoming Golf R estate. The dealer is offering service and maintenance at £10.31+vat per month for the 2 year lease period.

I'll probably have to try out the launch control a time or 2....but apart from that I don't expect to be too hard wearing on the tyres, i'm more Jenson Button than Lewis Hamilton with my tyre wear
Would not bother with maintenance, you may get away with no service as the cars are usually set up for I think its called long life servicing. I expect only to have 1 service and I am doing 20k miles over 2 years.
All depends on driving etc, think my car says next service is due in 372 days. I will have a look later as haven't checked it in a while. I have done 4 k miles in 3 months, term is 20k miles over 2 years (10k per year)

Like i said, most Insurers provide new for old in the first year (happened to a TT stolen from my drive). Was actually 11mths old & the insurers ordered a new car, to my gain the 02 Spec had been released since i'd bought mine so i actually on paper received a better car.
Had that happened at say 13 months old (i wasn't with NFU back then) then i'd have received a payout based on the value (may have required some negotiation) of the car at 13mths old, however the car was then actually 13mths old so i'd have been paid what it was worth & would (if i'd wanted) bought another 13mth old car. I could pay a premium (unlikely £60) for return to invoice & then i'd have bought another new car which i can see some benefit in (many clauses in many of those Return To Invoice policies though).
If i bought my cars with tiny deposits & put most of the value on tick then yes i can see the point in those cases as you'd need some financial support to balance things out. If i bought cash then i'd receive what my car was worth at the point it was a total loss & that would be no different if i was selling at that same point.
As i originally said, i've no interest in GAP Insurance, in fact none of the 'extra' policies dealers & the like peddle, however if they work for some people then fair enough.
That said, if i was to be offered a policy to cover 4yrs at a £60 premium that would basically guarantee me to be thousands, even 10's of thousands of ££'s better off in the event of a total loss, then i'd very likely bag myself one of those, to date however i've not witnessed this level of free money being offered by any such company.
I however am happy to be proved wrong & would (assuming i hadn't hired/leased) certainly sign up for such a policy in the paragraph above.
What is the cost differential between a policy with "old for new" compared to one without it? When all is said and done you will be paying more for that feature in your policy, but you only get it for one year vs however many years you do the GAP for. GAP is better than return to invoice w.r.t the fact it accounts for price increases. I bought a car back in the day when VAT was 15%, soon after it was 20%, that's not an insignificant amount of money there even before you start factoring the incremental increases we get from the manufacturers themselves.Had that happened at say 13 months old (i wasn't with NFU back then) then i'd have received a payout based on the value (may have required some negotiation) of the car at 13mths old, however the car was then actually 13mths old so i'd have been paid what it was worth & would (if i'd wanted) bought another 13mth old car. I appreciate it might not be for you, I was just explaining why I feel its worth considering. And like most things dealers peddle (other than cars) you are far better off getting it elsewhere.

Yeah that's what I thought as well gazza. Did you specifically request the car to be set up on long life service? As I am on low mileage, it is probably not the most suitable service schedule, but if I can, I will ask them to set it to this to try and get away with just one service. All depends on driving etc, think my car says next service is due in 372 days. Anyone else had any experience with this?
Ah right, that's ok then, will turn down the maintenance offer then, thought it might be worth it for the tyres, as I've had some bad luck with punctures in the past, but when I asked, he said the tyres maintenance doesn't cover punctures, just wear and tear. Reading the blurb of docs I got, I did interpret it to say that like for like tyres had to be replaced on handing it back, but you think as long as they are the same fitting you can just put on cheaper tyres?

My car has made it to the UK ! Tracker is saying about a week from now - is that about right ?
Just so I can get the initial plus rental ready, when are they likely to take it - on delivery day ?
I had an email about a week ago saying arrived in UK and just had an update today saying it's at stage 7, nearly there for pick up. So a week is about right.Just so I can get the initial plus rental ready, when are they likely to take it - on delivery day ?
