You mean you let someone else drive it!
Missus drove mine the other day, without her realising she put it in sport mode, pulled the gear stick too far down, so she was in fourth at 50mph on a dual carriageway for 3 miles. She did then realise to use the paddles.
Up to 4500 miles now in mine, apart from annoying rattly window, its a good car, just a shame with the performance of it it all seems a bit effortless, I guess thats why I like the type r honda (2.0 vtec n/a) - just felt a bit less point and squirt.
Never mind, got the twisty's in Wales coming up in 3 weeks!

I switched it to race mode and told her to 'boot it' - I won't tell you what speed she attained!

looks good, my next car is a golf R estate in the same colour, should be ready in November. be good to get a bit more poke than the GTD estate i've got currently.
You won't be disappointed. I went from manual GTD to manual R hatch, then DSG estate. The DSG puts it in a different league to even the manual R.andrewparker said:

Nice! So very nearly went for black, but my Indium Grey car arrives on Wednesday! Pics to follow
Red and Black both look good, both options I considered, but glad I went for Lapiz Blue, as I'd not had a blue car since my Puma in 1997 and my last two cars were Red and Black, so I thought I'd ring the changes!I travelled in the back seat of mine for the first time yesterday (it's really quite comfy!)

Would dearly love VW to do some more interesting colours.
900 miles in Wales it looked like this.

looks great Andrew, I'm just over 3 months in with a white 7.5 estate having come from a manual GTD that I was in for 3 years. Different world doesn't come close to describing it! It's a riot!andrewparker said:

Call me a dinosaur if you like, but I still find the DSG frustrating (And I've read the detailed post on the VW group) as it often seems to be in the wrong gear.
Sure, it's easy around town and on the M3 when you're stuck in a 4 hour traffic jam, but it seems to hamper press on driving (to a degree) and certainly overtaking.
Yes, you can knock it down a gear, or two, but you can do that instantly with a manual!
I've not driven a Manual R (And hear the VW change isn't rifle-bolt slick), but if there was an option of a manual R Estate, I would take it, personally.

PS Self driving cars are coming for those who find manually changing gear, steering, accelerating, braking a chore!

My biggest problem isn't the feel of the shift, it's the clutch. I always found it very hard to make smooth shifts from 1st to 2nd.Edited by marcosgt on Thursday 28th September 10:36
My first impressions for DSG are that in regular D it is very eager to change right up, and it's the opposite in S. I'm actually really enjoying driving it in manual mode with the paddles and flicking it into D when the traffic is more pedestrian.
Must admit sometimes I love the dsg, other times find it a bit meh. Have got use to it though and driving it smoother than I started, got use to stop start etc.
What I do find, is I quite like eco mode - basically use it to and from work, or long journeys on motorway, although it is hesitant to change gear going up hills, haven't got use to that yet. I am not really interested in a manual again tbh, this is why I love driving in america!
Sport mode, annoying if I'm honest, so you have to have it in manual with sport mode (push dsg stick as far to left, select sport mode on driver profile) otherwise its forever changing gear, as you overide it then 5 seconds later your back in 4th at 50.
Or can you pull the gearstick down to get sport mode then push to right? Might try this tonight.
Its a good car, but not finding much time to use the power. Counting the days to drive in Wales!

That's my preference too. Once I started using the paddles a bit more I started to enjoy (and 'get') the gearbox. Up to then, in day-to-day driving it felt like a slightly compromised autobox. Now it's mostly 'D' round town and on the motorway, but paddles on the backroads and occasionally in town if there are lots of roundabouts or places that the DSG gets caught napping.

You can also do manual mode in D to keep the exhaust valves shut and the engine quiet.

Your no dinosaur! Manual gearboxes give the driving experience so much more, it's a hot hatch after all and they are about driver involvement, VW should have done what ford did and only do a manual option , long live the drivers car! Sorry to all those with dsg boxes who love their cars, it needs 3 pedals .
