I have one of the previous Golf R estates (Delivered June 2017) and as part of the deal I wasn't allowed to specify any options, not even change the colour....
I was given a limited choice of colour, but was not able to specify any factory options. I did however, have Android Auto and Apple Car Play enabled at my dealer.

As an FYI for any would be owners, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay is enabled by default but voice control isn't.

Just been told “The offer isn’t getting announced this week. Some sort of delay. I’ll be in touch hopefully next week.”

I could have any colour, as far as I know, certainly no restrictions were made (Got my car in June).

Just got the same (or similar) email. However it was received yesterday, so perhaps they will be announced on Friday.

Dear Paul

I was expecting the campaigns for this quarter to be released today. However, Volkswagen have announced that due to some technical difficulties, they will not be happening today or tomorrow.

I will update you with information as and when I get it.

Srsly guys, don't bother. I had a Golf R, I don't get the fuss. If it's cheap as chips that's one thing but as an enjoyable car - forget it.

Contrary to that, as perhaps we have different opinions of what's fun, but i couldn't disagree with that sentiment more.

I've had far more expensive, luxurious & quicker cars than the Golf R, but of everything i've owned/driven, the new Golf R is possibly the most fun i've ever had in a car. Accept it's not the fastest car in the world (possibly is at the price point though), it certainly isn't the most luxurious car i've had & although not bad looking, i don't find myself aching to look back at it when i've parked the car in the garage, or people stopping me at the petrol station in awe, however as a complete package that car over delivers in every way i can measure a fun vehicle.

Went for a hoon in the Lakes on Sunday & found myself shocked, giggling & excited at just how good the car was. Able to play with car's many divisions above it & even deliver them an unexpected loss in the performance stakes.

Show me another car at £30k new (more so when able to secure at the low entry point Lease deals) that can do everything the Golf R does, but better or be more enjoyable?

I wanted to love it, I really did. Maybe my expectations were too high. I thought the loss of displacement would be outweighed by the well publicised plus points and the all-round 'sortedness' of the car.

If it works for you - fantastic. As for me, the lure of a V8 was too much :-)

And as for an alternative way of spending 30k, admittedly, not for a new car - I'd probably go for an M5 or stretch to an RS4.

Ironically Paul, i came to the Golf R from a Stage 2 F10 M5 & the R sits alongside a new A8 Black Edition.

I'd be hard pushed to say the R is better than the M5, however it is certainly more enjoyable as it does everything so well & would certainly keep an M5 honest. Yes it lacks a V8 rumble, but for me that's never going to be an issue, as the upside is 40+mpg whilst still being as quick as the M5 was (90% of the time).

I also & this may not come across correctly, but given it's price point & it's immense capability, i find i'm using the Golf as the go to runaround, rather than the Wife's XC60, something i never did with the M5. Also on a run out, more so at this time of the year i find i can if desired drive the R at 9/10 whereas the M5 would have been pushed at best to 5/10.

Ha, should have looked at your username - same as the rs forum :-)

Horses for courses, of course. As a workhorse, it makes sense. For me though, it just didn't light my fire.

What a load of absolute tosh. I think I’ll continue to listen to the opinion of Chris Harris and numerous other respected motoring journalists who all love the thing.

Agreed, I absolutely cannot fault it. Every review has been 5 star, put it in race and find a quiet twisty road, it becomes a completely different animal, just a joy!

Are you sure you had one?

Oh yes, and I do realise it's a bit cheeky to post my thoughts on it on this thread. Just didn't get on with it. RS5 now.....wobble

That's a completely different sector and price point (it's double), not really fair criticising the golf when that's what you are comparing it to....

The very same.

Was just surprised at the different views.

Without sounding conceited, it takes a lot to wow me & the Golf R has over delivered in that respect. That said, i hadn't set the bar overly high & only took a fleeting view of the great reviews as we all know they should be taken with a pinch of salt. However the giggles the car induces are far greater than i expected, the tech is ahead of anything i've owned to date & it's ability to deploy the wolf in sheeps clothing (more so as mine's a bog standard White Estate) is almost unbeatable.

Not sure i'd feel exactly the same if i had to do everything in it, but as a fun car that 'can' do pretty much everything it's in my mind unbeatable & i can even (never said this before) see my striking a deal with VW to buy the car at the end of the Lease.

Would you like an apology? beer (And not a new RS5, so it's in a similar price bracket).
