Interesting to hear how people expected so much from VW.

Before I had my R I never really expected that much from a VW - to me the golf is an average car and I've never really loved them - I do really like my R though..

Having said that it does feel nicer than cheaper cars but nowhere near Audi / VW / BMW's ive had.

The equipment is there but maybe it's the plasticy interior etc. Maybe i'd feel different with leather.

Are the quotes people are getting for a 12mth extension from VWFS or other leasing companies?
The Mrs has just got a quote for hers (due back September) and its jumped up from £215pm to £326 for10k miles.

This seems a lot given the other quotes. Also they said they look at the total mileage so - 30k over 3 years. However its not got to 13k yet so hoping we get a much lower number if we go back and ask for a quote based on 25k over 3years ~ 8k per year.

Not bad but not great, £8k for 2 years + the admin fee. Is this the hatch or estate? Couldn't find it on their site...

Have the same car and received the same figures as you for extending. I have done 18k, gone back to them and requested 6 month extension with a total of 24k miles over 30 months....see what we get. Not a lot to replace it with though. Only decent offers I have seen are for vehicles in the next month or two. Other than that, order now for end of the year delivery at a mediocre deal.

I'm ordering one on Friday; 5dr DSG metallic white and dynaudio.

What are people's experiences with the returns process? Just how picky are they when it comes to "fair wear and tear"? I've had my car inspected by Webuyanycar for example and it was a joke - every little thing was noted and charged. Will lease companies try to bend me over in the same way?

Top Tip:

Be careful with your sun visors. I was trying to track down rattles the other day and somehow cracked by mirror in the driver's side visor. And no, you can't just replace the mirror, it's a whole new visor.

£107 and going to fit it myself - that was an expensive lesson...
Well that was a of a job...

Turns out VW have made the visors very difficult to remove due to the fact the have those various warnings printed on them. It's done, lesson learned.

Check this (and you should be issued a copy by the leasing company as to what they'll look at.

Just had an email saying my air con is due a service, can I ignore this or does the car actually need one before it goes back?

Just put down an order.

I hope it takes the minimum 13 weeks and not maximum 19 like the lease company said it could. I’ve onky specced Dynaudio and metallic paint (which was free).

Which lease company? And did they charge you full price for Dynaudio or a reduced price? (Due to perceived increase in future value)

Nationwide. And they charged full price as its contract lease hire.

When I specced the same car up at VW the GMFV stayed the same so I don’t think the option accounts for much resale “value”. Doesn’t bother me. I listen to a lot of music in my car and I’ve heard the standard Golf speakers - not amazing.

No, vw dealership tried that on me, you don't have to have it done, no point if you're not keeping the car.

Excellent, thought it was the standard dealership trying it on...

My M135i had a whining air con fan and when I had it looked at (under warranty) the dealer said that they wouldn’t fix it until I had the air con gas topped up. Why?

The gas BMW exclusively use contains special lubricants that will help replenish any lost lubrication in the fan bearings, which the service centre manager said was likely causing the noise. They recommend it every 2 years in order to keep the parts in top working order.

With VW, options are not taken into consideration when they calculate the GFV/RV on a new Golf.

IMO, if you like music then Dynaudio is a no brainer for the money. As you say the standard system isn’t great for long periods of music enjoyment. I have a MK7 Golf on lease, acquired for “2nd Car’ duties. I’m thinking of replacing both my cars with a single car and if I go down the Golf route I’ll certainly be ticking the Dynaudio box on the options sheet. The difference between the Dynaudio and standard is night and day.

Hey, I picked up my 7.5 estate the same time as you and I don't get any of these issues. It's a shame as I am having a great experience with mine.
Its a good car - but the niggles are making the experiance of owning the car not great. I know I should grow a pair etc, but never had it on any other car I have owned. I think its something to do with the window, as occasionally I get whistling noise - again first car I have ever had this.

Shame - but will probably extend for the 3 months at same price and then hand it back. Just have to keep the rubbers moist etc, which is a bit annoying doing it every week at the moment. Unless they were never done from factory.

One day I will get to a meet on VWROC as well.

Anyone else finding the non-DCC car runs out of suspension travel a little too quickly? There have been several occasions over the last few weeks where an initially innocuous-looking piece of tarmac has sent one hell of a thump through a wheel, enough to make me wince at least twice and result in my checking the wheel/tyre for damage afterward.

I don't recall having the same issues on my previous car (which was, in all fairness, a slightly waftier motor on more forgiving suspension) and I know the roads are fked and covered in half-hearted and shoddy repairs but still.... I hate that I have to devote more attention to assessing upcoming scarred and pitted tarmac rather than keeping my focus on other driving tasks.

I'm loving my estate 6 months in....apart from the virtual cockpit and in particular the map. I like to have the map in the centre when driving..

So many times it either sits there saying initialising map, or loading map but never actually gets any further. I took it to a local VW dealer in Bristol who said to remove the Nav card and re-insert it but that seldom fixes it. Does my head in and is tainting what so far has been a great 6 months.

Does anyone else get this ?

To date my 7mth old 7.5R estate has been pretty much faultless.

Only niggles for me are a rattle emanating from the passenger side dash/glovebox area that i can't find/fix for love nor money. It's not bad, but just taints the drive ever so slightly. I turned the sound actuator off within the first few days, so it's definitely not that. Sometimes the Apple CarPlay needs a couple of attempts to fire up & the Internet connectivity isn't the most reliable as can take several attempts to tether to my iPhone X, even though it should auto connect. Lastly i've some weird dark grey corrosion around the top of the front VW badge, which houses the ACC camera/sensor. As it's purely cosmetic i can't be arsed to leave with VW for 1 day for them to check it out & then return to have them replace the unit.

May get it done at some point, but right now & ignoring the above minor irritations i rate the car highly & am enjoying it far more than i expected to.

All that said, i'm yet to have any car that's been perfect & my last car (FFRR A/B) was rejected at 4mths old due to numerous faults & a few years ago i had to reject my 1st F10 M5 as that had a major engine fault that for a while couldn't be diagnosed & then BMW realised a fix other than a replacement engine wasn't possible, so in the grand scheme of things, this Golf Estate is almost perfectsmile
