Mine (R estate) went back today (BCA collection were late but the inspection was very easy)....
Great car for 2 years/23,659 miles @36.5MPG which I think is pretty respectable.
No tyres, no brands, just one service and total cost for 2 years of only £6,100 - I can only hope another good deal comes along sometime.....
One service? isn't the service interval every 10K ?Great car for 2 years/23,659 miles @36.5MPG which I think is pretty respectable.

I took GAP on mine through ALA, figured it was worth it in the event of total loss - the initial rental would a pain to pay twice in a short period of time...
Is it just the initial rental that you would have to pay? in the event of a total loss?......not the remaining monthly rentals until the contract end?In essence, everything should be reset - I'd have my initial rental back and the lease co would be paid the value of the car plus any lease payments due. It would settle everything off and I'd be able to put the initial rental down against a new car.

Although mine wasn't a lease, I've sold mine. It's being collected on Thursday.
Going to miss it terribly. No idea what to replace it with, only want an RS3 or M2 next but need to be free of monthly payments & debt for a while whilst we sort out houses.
Ah you’ll be buying a W rev vectors for car duties in he short term. Going to miss it terribly. No idea what to replace it with, only want an RS3 or M2 next but need to be free of monthly payments & debt for a while whilst we sort out houses.

I've bought a Clio 172 for the next couple of years of saving. It will be greatly missed, and I will shed a tear when it's taken away
Yep. Not going to be taking any loans of car finance for a while. I'm thinking about buying a 172/182 or spend a bit more and get a Polo GTI. gazza5 said:
I will probably have to have something dull after my R.
Will probably need to move by then, so will need to free up as much money as possible, all depending on jobs etc.
Not looking forward to it - but needs must, plus never know might be a lease deal on the mk8 R!
I'd like to get something with a bit more drama, maybe an RS3 or something? Also never had a BMW for any length of time so interested in M240i/440i or similar. Saying that, if they offered me an extension on mine at similar rates I'd probably go for it. It's practical, nippy and has all the tech/kit you need. What's not to like? Will probably need to move by then, so will need to free up as much money as possible, all depending on jobs etc.

My R Estate lease is about 3 months off completion, is there a particular time when VWFS contact you with an offer to buy?
No, you have to contact them if you want a cost to purchase the vehicle. My car is due back September, and currently is 200 miles away from the next service, and needs two new tyres (still legal but not by much - down to about 2mm).
Really appreciate any experience / ideas on what VWFS attitude will be if I just hand it back now to avoid the C. 550GBP needing to be spent on it? Might make financial sense for me as i'm on holiday pretty much al of August anyway.
Thank you,
Rob

If you hand it back now you'll need to pay about 55% of the outstanding rentals
So it depends whether that's cheaper than the cost of the servicing and tyres whether it's worth it!
Thank you - seems to make sense to me - either about 1100gbp to have a car i'm using for 2 months, or about 350 to give it back now and annoy my wife by borrowing her fiat 500 occasionally (I don't do a regular commute by car).So it depends whether that's cheaper than the cost of the servicing and tyres whether it's worth it!

Hi all,
Golf R delivered March 2017. Currently at 6500 miles and saying oil service due in 8600 miles or 29 days. Inspection in 13600 or 171 days.
Two dealers I've spoken to have advised me that it shouldn't be due a service as it's a lease (from a online broker). Although my understating was that it is on long life and the cars telling me due to driving style that it's due an oil service? However both local dealers won't book the car in and have advised to have the light reset by the supplying dealer.
Broker has advised me to call the dealer and ask them to change the service to long life, although I suspect that it is and it's up to 18000 miles/years and is telling me it's due itself. I spoke to VW customer service, they found the car and told me it should be on long life and no way should it be asking for a service and to take it in and have them reset the light. Have I got it wrong, or have both dealers and customer service?
Thanks.

Inspection services are fixed to 2-years/ 18k miles so it should still have about 250 days left on that counter. Sounds like that wasn't setup properly at PDI and will need either a dealer or someone with VCDS to sort.
Oil servicing can vary as depending on driving style it may call earlier. I'd be tempted just to take it somewhere like https://www.national.co.uk/ for a cheap oil change then you can reset it yourself in the menus.

Thanks for that. Makes sense. They quoted £250 for an oil change which I thought was a bit high. Expected circa £150. I'm awaiting the local dealer to call me back from yesterday.
Id have thought if it was driving style it would say something like < 200 miles, rather than counting down days? First car with variable servicing, as normally just take them in yearly, or when the book says.

Lots of town, stop start etc will make the intervals shorter. Along with lots of fast driving or launches etc.
Mines on 10k miles - nearly on 11k. Oil service due in 2500 miles, can't remember the number of days. Will just wait for it to come up and do it.
If it was not on long life servicing then it would have asked for a service at 1 year old surely?
Mine reg June 2017 - so just over 1 year old - but I do a lot of stop start in the week.
