The Golf R lease thread
Discussion
My R Estate goes back in a couple of weeks.
2 Years of pretty cheap driving all things considered.
Only costs were fuel and 1 x service.
21K and still on the same set (with tread left) of boots
Got an old BMW Diesel now to tide me over for a few months/year, till the next bargain comes along.

My R is saying it needs an oil service - it's the first.
I rang up VW to book it in, and they've said it's going to be almost £400.
Surely this can't be right for an oil service ?
The onboard computer says
- Inspection in 8500 or 210 days
- Oil change service in 2400 mi or 25 days
I asked the guy why it's so expensive and he said they change the pollen filters...
What did everyone else pay for the first oil service ?

Hi all,
Golf R delivered March 2017. Currently at 6500 miles and saying oil service due in 8600 miles or 29 days. Inspection in 13600 or 171 days.
Two dealers I've spoken to have advised me that it shouldn't be due a service as it's a lease (from a online broker). Although my understating was that it is on long life and the cars telling me due to driving style that it's due an oil service? However both local dealers won't book the car in and have advised to have the light reset by the supplying dealer.
Broker has advised me to call the dealer and ask them to change the service to long life, although I suspect that it is and it's up to 18000 miles/years and is telling me it's due itself. I spoke to VW customer service, they found the car and told me it should be on long life and no way should it be asking for a service and to take it in and have them reset the light. Have I got it wrong, or have both dealers and customer service?
Thanks.
To follow up on this I took the car in to be seen, admin staff said we'll just book it in for it's first service.Golf R delivered March 2017. Currently at 6500 miles and saying oil service due in 8600 miles or 29 days. Inspection in 13600 or 171 days.

So had the car booked in for today, turned up and they said it's not due and reset the light. Called the lease company and was told if that's what they said, then they're the dealer so know best. I've had calls with the lease company previously and VW head office were involved (but next to useless) and was told different things. So now I've asked for this in writing from the lease company. Amazed that VW today didn't just take my money, so it's now saying inspection in 20100 miles, or 365 days and oil change is 9400 miles or 365 days. All done from inside the car and not VCDS.
Anyone else had any experiences like this, as trying to prevent me being stung come return time.

What were the GFVs for R estates? Am looking to buy a used one and trying to gauge what sort of margin a dealer might have to play with.
GFV is a PCP term and wouldn't have been on lease paperwork. It's hard to answer as the GFV changed depending on when you bought your car, how long your PCP agreement was and if it was a 3 door, 5 door, manual or DSG. I got my 5 door DSG in March 2016 and the GFV at the end of the 48 months PCP was supposed to be: £13,542.30
If you bought a 5 door DSG today on a 48 month PCP the GFV would be: £12,516.30.
Actual optional extras like sunroof, navigation, Pretoria wheels etc do not increase the GFV. The GFV was the same for a base car vs a 'fully loaded' car.

I would say roughly 15k - 17k depending on spec as a GFV for a 3 year old.
Although well specced, pretoria alloys have a premium over standard cadiz. I actually think the cadiz ones suit the estate but each to there own.
Would expect a dealer to want to keep a £1 - £1.5k margin at least. Plenty of demand for high spec cars, but plenty standard spec ones around so not to overpay.

There don't seem to be many R Estates available privately, presumably because most were leased. The GFV figures are considerably below what the trade are asking, presumably because residuals have held up better than expected?
I don't think asking 22k for a 2 year old estate is unreasonable, would have another year warranty etc.Roughly 20k miles give or take a few.
Would expect a gfv value of about 20k max for a 2 year old example (approx 10k depreciation in 2 years about right).
3 years nearer 14k depreciation? 4 years nearer 17 / 18 k deprectiation from 30k new on GFV. You wouldn't get one for 12k at 4 years old, not until new mk8 R out etc at least.
