My old R estate is on that list. It went back with some damage to the rear bumper, looks like VWFS repaired it before sending to auction.

Change the search to golf r estates - quite a few coming up - a few are sold today - shows the prices that are coming up for them based on mileage etc.

For anyone who is coming near lease wonders how much there car maybe from VW etc. Of course this is trade price, and not what it would be on the forecourt!
I'm wondering if its worth buying those instead of going via a dealer. Seems like a decent enough saving.

thoughts please. my golf r estate, 66 plate, 25k miles, is due back in sept. so paid approx 7500 for the two years lease, and they want 20900 to buy it...

ive stuck 4 new tyres on recently, and its immaculate.

so if i buy it, that will mean I got the car for 28500. its still got a years warranty, but presume it will need a service soon (already had an minor one at 15k miles).

good deal and worth buying?

what could you replace it with for the same price? better the devil you know sometimes too.

If it helps in any way I just bought a new R with 2k of options for 29.5k (pre reg)

Run for a year and change then? How much is lease to extend - have you asked? If for example they say £250 a month for 12 months thats £3,000 to run it for another year - do you think car will be worth £17900 after 3 years.

i know its looking at crystal ball etc. - maybe run a price on 3 years old ones (15 plate trade in) for a rough guide.

On lease you will keep long life servicing as well.

Hi all,

Sorry for asking this, as I know I've seen it asked before, but I just can't find it!

I've got a Golf 7.5 R on lease. It's done 11700 Miles and it's asking for a Service in 500 Miles time.

It will have been registered for 1 year, since the end of Sept 2017.

What is the best way of "doing as little as possible" over the term of the Lease.

I feel like, I will end up getting it serviced twice, due to the amount of miles, regardless?

thanks guys. i think its a car that will hold a bit of value, despite the market probably getting flooded with ex-lease cars, so I think i will buy it, and see how it goes...can always sell it. only issue I see with it over the 2 years is it drinks petrol...but it is a fast car so guess I cannot complain....it kind of compliments my 330d xdrive which has averaged 42mpg over its lifetime of 80k miles...

Depends how you drive it - I regularly see 40ish MPG (39.9 MPG last weekend, for example!) on longer trips.

Driving quickly on A/B roads it's barely any better than my RX8 (and not as much fun to drive), but that would only EVER do 25 MPG, so a bit of a mix up is good, especially as most of my driving is M-Way or Dual Carriageway trips and the space is great for all my diving gear!

If you leave it in race on a motorway trip, yes it'll guzzle fuel, but that's just daft! biggrin

My 7.5 is significantly better on fuel than my 7.0
Average 34mpg whereas the old one was mid 20s. Long run I see over 40mpg.

50 mile trip up the A1 in my 7.5 estate today, keeping it around 70mph, and it averaged 48.2mpg. Best I’ve seen in my manual hatch is 39.8mpg.

Blimey, even with the ACC on set to 70 I can't get anywhere near 40mpg, let alone basically 50mpg!

I find ACC terrible for economy. I probably could have bettered that figure by being in Eco mode too. As it was I was in Individual with engine set to Race.

Is that a pre facelift? I had a pre facelift manual R hatch and best I ever saw was 38, and that wasnt at motorway speeds. My S5 I have had over 42 on a 100 mile journey. I have come to the conclusion that the gearbox (and gearing) makes such a big difference, and might be similar in the facelift as the DSG is 7 speed in a facelift.

I got 42mpg on my way back from Kingston last night; agree on the comments re. ACC vs. Eco - Eco allows coasting which it never does with ACC and it makes a surprising difference to the economy.

Am I correct in assuming that the 7 R is £195 a year for tax and the 7.5 will be £140 then a further £310 each year after 2 years as it’s worth over 40k? I was going to go for the 7.5 as it’s more frugal on the fuel but I guess with the road tax increase it’s probably not worth it.
