The Golf R lease thread
Discussion
The Mk8 is due mid-to-late 2019 so it's possible there may be some run-out deals on cars toward the summer as they look to shift through the last of the Mk7.5 cars. Whether that will include the R is a gamble as the new R most likely won't be available Day One; they'll launch the higher-volume sellers in the range first I suspect with the sports models to follow.

I am paying just over £300 p/m for my R which is due to go back in January. I asked for a 1 year extension and their offer was just over £400 p/m. I will be a couple of thousand miles over on the mileage but even so, not a very attractive deal i'm sure you'll agree. So its going back.
Who was your finance provider? I've done 2 extension requests on my Golf R in recent months and both increased the monthly from 270 to 350+ for the same milage 8k. So its going back in December.I also got a quote to buy it - Alphabet do this but it has to go to a 3d party. They wanted £22800 (66 plate, 5dr hatch, metallic 15k miles). Is this reasonable? looks like they go for 23-24 on the Trader.
The guy who came to inspect / collect it said it was one of the cleanest cars he's seen in a long time.
Now I've got to wait approx, 6-7 weeks for my new one to turn up !!

Just got my VW extension quotes for the VW R estate, to do 10k a year. Original deal £1560 up front and £256.80 a month.
6 month £205.52
12 month £205.49
Car will obviously need a service, and probably 2 new tyres.
Will you keep it then? I'd certainly be tempted if I didn't have the M2 on order.6 month £205.52

On the same June 2017 deal and just had the extension price. £210 for another 8000 miles over 12 months. Bit bored of the car really and was going to swap it but it seems good value. It will need 4 tyres but they are only £88 each. Looking for a good reason to change it but cannot think of one.

With the wife to drop our 2nd child anytime soon and a remortgage due this year, it will more than likely be staying.I did see the M2 deals and was very tempted, was hoping maybe they may do something on the M3 saloon, but that was a bit over what I wanted to pay.
I do find the golf a little dull, but I think that's just modern cars in general.

yeh, I tend to agree with you on the Golf, when I got it I was coming from a GTD and I thought the step up was amazing but now I've got the M2 on order all of a sudden it's lost it's charm. I'm really glad I checked specifically that my R was on the longer service intervals of 18k (confirmed by the broker) rather than time-based... It's come up this morning saying it needs an oil service in the next 4 weeks. Fortunately I ultimately went fully-maintained on my lease which means it's paid for out of the lease.
How are people finding the tyre wear on the Bridgestone S001s? I'm just coming up on 10k and I have probably 2-3mm all-round so some life left in them. Is this in line with other peoples' experiences? I've checked and Arval use ATS for their maintained contract tyres, however ATS don't seem to do those Bridgestones so I'm thinking about getting them to put on an equivalent 'premium' such as ContiSportContact 5s or Michelin PS4 when the time comes.
I recall on older cars with 4WD that you should change all the tyres at the same time, is this true of the R too?

Bridgestones at 13.5k are 4.2 at the back and 4.5 at the front. Should last another 4k to see me until the end of the lease in June.
Still undecided about keeping it. At £210 a month it is cheap enough but a bit bored so half tempted to switch it for a V90 and try a big barge for a while. The ride in the golf is starting to annoy me as the roads around me are rough and fun of the acceleration has waned.

It seems I have a slightly heavier right foot then...
Mine's rarely seen a motorway though, it's mostly stop-start commuting/around town with a few A-road blasts. I reckon I'll get probably another 2-3k out of this set... Assuming tread wear isn't even, do all four need to be done at the same time to keep ESP happy etc?

Mines costing a bit to run despite averaging 38mpg....I am now driving to a client from the Peak District to Norfolk. So have put 12k on the car in 4 months! Tyres are not wearing fast but keep getting punctures and so have had to order 2 new continentals today (850p’s). Suspect my end of lease mileage excess charge is going to be huge!

We have just changed the fronts on ours at 23k, pretty amazed by that , doesn’t get driven hard unless I’m in it , rears probably have another 3k in themHow are people finding the tyre wear on the Bridgestone S001s? I must admit I have been looking at buying a M135i or M140i or a M5 (very different cars), but head at the moment says remortgage, keep golf, go for the M140i or M5 after. I need to own a straight 6 at some point, that pretty much leaves a v8 to own, then maybe downgrade to a S4 / S5 sportback v6. Or at least thats the plan this week.Although I do think the M5 will feel like the golf - too capable for its own good.

Jeeeezusss... all 4 on ours needed replacing around 13k iirc
I'm on my 3rd set in 13k miles, but she does play on track a little & the Cup 2's didn't last very longI'll 100% be buying mine at the end of the Lease as am still in awe with just how good a car this R Estate is. If VWFS want to do a deal to extend the lease by 6/12mths then i'm game, but if not i'll just do a deal to purchase in October.
