Just thought I’d check and see what extensions people have been offered at the end of their two year lease with Alphabet.

Mine is £230 a month and 6-12 months extensions are between £370-£400 a month. Like I’ve seen a few pages back.

Quote to buy was £23500 on a 17 plate 3 door manual with just under 12000 miles.

Leased my last two cars but nothing appeals/lack of deals so not sure what to replace it with. Tempted to buy but think there are better places to spend that money and try something different.

Just got my VW extension quotes for the VW R estate, to do 10k a year. Original deal £1560 up front and £256.80 a month.

6 month £205.52
12 month £205.49

Car will obviously need a service, and probably 2 new tyres.
I've decided to cancel my M2 due to a change in circumstances so I have asked for an extension quote. We got our vehicles at the same time and from the same provider so I'm hoping for the same figures - if they are different then it will be just weird!

Just to follow on from this. It appears due to the WLTP, the new Golf R is designed different. This is causing/caused delayed and propping up residuals of the previous version.

Just called Lex to discuss handing back my Golf R early to avoid 2nd service. Service due on 31st March. Thought i'd be able to hand it back few days before and avoid paying the service charge.
They told me that a service light counts as a missed service, so if on collection the light is on, they will charge me £250. Not fair to me but i asked again to confirm and he said it again.
To me the car has been serviced in accordance to VW as first service has been done, the second service is not due to 31st March. I know they wont even service it and just sell it asap anyway.

The quotes are run 16-15 of each month, so i can hand back today and pay £93, which is not possible to arrange. The other quote is valid till 15th March, hence i would have to pay my final months full rental. Asked to hand back end of Feb and not pay March rental charge but they said no, i had to pay the final months rental.

Looks to me as only option is to hand back 28th Feb to avoid the final service light (believe its 30 days on VW??) but have to pay March rental when i don't even have the car.

You need to work out what will be cheaper, pay for the service and keep the car or pay the March rental and not have the car.

They are right though, service light showing = billable.

When are you scheduled to hand the car back to Lex?

Due back on 5th April mate. Got MX-5 as well so i wont be without a car. Can anyone confirm the service light is 30 days on the R for the second service?
So handing back on 28th February would be fine?

The manual states the below and does not give any indication of days.

Service alert
If an oil change service or inspection is due soon, a service alert will appear the next time the ignition is switched on.

The number of kilometres or amount of time shown correspond to the maximum number of kilometres or maximum time that can still be driven before the next service.

Yip my high extension quote was also from alphabet, they won’t even allow an informal 3 months , so I assume they have a buyer for it

I am paying just over £300 p/m for my R which is due to go back in January. I asked for a 1 year extension and their offer was just over £400 p/m. I will be a couple of thousand miles over on the mileage but even so, not a very attractive deal i'm sure you'll agree. So its going back.
Who was your finance provider? I've done 2 extension requests on my Golf R in recent months and both increased the monthly from 270 to 350+ for the same milage 8k. So its going back in December.

I also got a quote to buy it - Alphabet do this but it has to go to a 3d party. They wanted £22800 (66 plate, 5dr hatch, metallic 15k miles). Is this reasonable? looks like they go for 23-24 on the Trader.
My finance provider was also Alphabet, didn't ask for a purchase price, but will try and track it through the BCA auctions to see what it sells for. (66 plate, DSG, 20k miles)

The guy who came to inspect / collect it said it was one of the cleanest cars he's seen in a long time.

Now I've got to wait approx, 6-7 weeks for my new one to turn up !!
In case anyone is interested, I followed my car through to the BCA auctions, and the hammer price on the day was £21200.

I imagine it would have to go on a dealers forecourt at around £24k

Looks like you have 7 days to sign the paperwork, dug mine out at the weekend (haven't signed it yet - new baby arrived).

So not sure whether to ask for a new extension quote or just sign the forms I have and send back (dating within the 7 days).

I was going to look at buying but with WLTP and the monumental balls up of what VW have done, means there is no way the car would be cheap (expect about £22 - £24k), so decided to lease for another year, pay the service costs etc.

There is no other car with this performance for £205 a month. It may be a bit dull to drive, too capable in my opinion, but don't know of anywhere else I could get a 2 year old car and it only cost me about £2500 - £3000 for a year depending on service cost and need for new tyre potentially

Congrats on the new arrival - you will be a bit busier now!! biggrin

Agree with you on the Golf, as long as my extension quote is favourable I will go another year and may even buy it after that depending on what deals are around at the time....

Just had my extension quotes though, both 6 and 12 month quotes take it down to £200 - this is a no brainer for me - I'm going to be signing the 12 month extension and sending it back ASAP!
