Just had my extension quotes though, both 6 and 12 month quotes take it down to £200 - this is a no brainer for me - I'm going to be signing the 12 month extension and sending it back ASAP!
Don't blame you at all - I was plannign to wait till March to get a quote to buy and then weigh up my options, but can't see it beign very cheap, so lease extension it is.Might try another quote see what they come back with, I am perfectly happy to pay £205 a month (plus £60 + VAT admin fee)
Just received my letter from VWFS stating my Contract Hire is due to end in October 19 & i should look to visit a VW Dealer to order my new car soon.
On receipt of this letter, is it too soon to contact them with regard to a 6/12mth extension or can that only be actioned a lot closer the Lease end date?

My lease is up at the beginning of June and I thought I'd look into options to buy or extend (as I really don't have any great enthusiasm for anything else and don't want to get into a whole new lease agreement as the prices seem much higher now) - Is it too early/late to be asking?
EDIT : Woo - Spooky - I got a text at 9:17 saying to call VWFS to discuss end of contract options!

To buy I believe its 3 months, but no idea if you have to fill a form online for VW or for the auction lot (BCA think it is).
Soem people have waited till th elast month, sometimes you get a cheaper quote nearer the time, although not sure if that will happen as the whole lease world seems to be changing, plus with shortage of R's currently I would expect the price to be steep, previous post not sure if it was on here or somewhere else got quoted 24k to buy there low mileage lease.
Not sure on current values of estates though.
Hi guys and gals,
I’ve always owned old motors but am now looking at leasing and the Golf R has caught my attention. I’d be wanting a 5dr DSG.
I had no idea there were sooo many leasing companies. I always assumed it was directly through the manufacturer and their finance company themselves. Are there benefits of either directly with the dealer, or not?
My current car is worth around £1,000 so I would be looking for a 3 month deposit then a lease of probably 36 months with at least 10k miles. More likely about 12k. Price wise, most places are quoting around £350-£400pm
I think for peace of mind I’d want a maintenance package. Not having to worry is half the reason I’m wanting to get away from older cars.
I’ve noticed that the new MK8 is due this summer. I’ve got to say, I’m not so much a fan as I am of the MK7.5. Is it common for the (so called) obsolete models to then drop in price when a new facelift is due? I’m happy to wait until the summer of this is the case.
Any advise of the whole subject is much appreciated for this novice!
Thanks in advance.

Personally I’d avoid the latest 300 bhp 7.5’s. So that for me would mean no leasing of a new R for now.
Have you looked at buying a second hand one from a dealer on a pcp?
The warranty is the same.
I am not a fan of maintenance included as generally you can get it cheaper by phoning around when a service is due.

There were more changes to the 300PS under WLTP than just emissions apparently - they changed a lot and most of it not better...Have you looked at buying a second hand one from a dealer on a pcp?

Re. maintenance - don't assume it is dearer. Mine's fully maintained as it was an extra £7/month which works out at £168 over the term. It's just had an oil service and it'll be due a full set of tyres in the next couple of months so the full maintenance was a no-brainer. New tyres alone will be £450+.

Many thanks for the info. Just had a looked and the only R I can find is this one:Have you looked at buying a second hand one from a dealer on a pcp?

Any ideas what sort of monthly payment it would be for this?
I had noticed that some were titled as 300 as apposed to 310. Something else to consider.
Personally I’d happily buy an ex lease car. You could probably look on the VWROC site for people handing back a ‘good un’ and then go to bca and buy it for a couple of grand below forecourt value. Lease cars tend to be non leather, no dsc etc. But for me that’s no prob.
I’d be looking at paying just over £20k for a 2 year old, 20k miles car....

Well leasing at nearly £400 a month is an expensive way to own an R. Over 3 years you are looking at nearly £16k in payments. A finance deal with a pcp type deal on say a £25k 2 year old car would surely cost less and you have capital at the end? Depending on balloon payment amount and interest rates of course.

A PCP type deal? Apologies for my ignorance in regards to this. I’m unsure of the idea of “needing” the capital at the end. I like the idea of having to option to either purchase or indeed just hand back. Edited by Gazzab on Wednesday 27th February 20:58

In case anyone is interested, I followed my car through to the BCA auctions, and the hammer price on the day was £21200.
I imagine it would have to go on a dealers forecourt at around £24k
Just found this advert for my old car, and was a little surprised by the price.I imagine it would have to go on a dealers forecourt at around £24k

Bearing in mind it sold at BCA auctions Bedford a month ago, for £21200 + Auction fees + Transportation to Belfast + prep.
I can't believe it's worth the trouble, for this little mark up. Just shows there ain't much meat on the bone for dealers these days.

Has anyone taken ownership of a 2019 post WLTP 300 bhp R yet? Any thoughts on it, positive or negative? I have mine arriving in two weeks and am mildly excited!
If it's a lease, you got nothing to worry about. Great cars, plenty power. Might be a bit quiet with the added PPF. If I was buying it wouldn't be a WLTP car because they loose direct injection.
