I agree - it’s just a golf and so you won’t be getting up at 6am on a Sunday to go for a blast. But it’s a very good car. Fast, comfortable, reliable and dare I say it, economical. Driving a friends normal golf today, they feel like they are completely different cars. Ultimately the R feels so much better engineered than a standard golf. At 200 or so pounds a month they are awesome. If I can extend my current lease I will, otherwise I am stumped re my next daily driver choices.
My extension quote was £320, not so appealing.

Just extended mine, original deal was 1 + 23 @ £307 6k/yr, quoted in May £244 for 3k extra with 9p/mile excess.
Quoted again last week £266 for the same extension so I sent back the May offer & it's gone through.

Have just been looking at an R for the Mrs to use for work.
Not sure if it’s a great idea or not for doing 15k mostly motorway miles, but she seems to like the car.

Anyway, Carwow offers are coming in at £395 pm with 3 up front, 15k pa.
On a car I’ve put a few options on.

Also, PCP coming in at £8,500 dep (inc £1500 from VW) and 36 x £544 pm

Essentially, it’s £9k less to rent one.

Eta- the lease prices were all for stock cars in white, no options.

Seriously?
45mpg?

I’d be well chuffed if it would do that.

I get 43 mpg driving cross country from Norwich to Yorkshire. When there are less roundabouts I get 45. Obviously when pressing on or shorter journeys it’s not as good.

Cheers for that.

Next question - any options that are really worth having?
DCC?
Pan roof?

She likes the 19” Pretoria wheels too...
And Tornado red

I'm about 6 months away from the end of my lease now and replied to the email from Arval to get an extension figure. Will be interesting to see what they come back with...!

If leasing then I would not tick any boxes except for DSG and paint colour (grey, white or black).

If you want 19 inch wheels then you apparently really need DCC.

Ok thanks

Grey, white or black aren’t on her list.
Well, Black is, but as it’s me that will be washing it I’ve tried to steer her away to her other favourite colour smile

Hmmm, my Mk7 R (6 speed DSG) is returning about 28mpg long term whereas the 2.0TFSi TT (also 6 speed S-Tronic ie DSG) it replaced did 32.5mpg with the same sort of weekly driving.

I'd imagine that the 7-speed DSG of the 'Mk 7.5' would definitely give improved MPG if you did a lot of motorway miles but the only way I get over 40mpg on a journey is if I stick religiously to all speed limits and drive like there's an egg between my foot and accelerator pedal.

When did the 7.5 come out and what are the differences between that and the 7?

My 7.5 is remarkably better on fuel than the 7 I had before albeit I drive a lot further in the new one.

Came out about 18 months ago. They have different rear lights, different front lights, different nose, radar in front badge (not a brick in the valance), Digital dash, darker seat accents, 7 gears on the dsg, bigger sat nav screen, Apple car play etc.

Cheers, so not many differences then laugh

I assume there’s a new version due anytime soon?

5 doors and DSG are now standard, with DSG and LED Matrix cornering lights, a reversing camera, keyless entry and the winter pack, but the 19" wheels and DCC add an awful lot of money that you pay up front - circa £1,820 and so over 2 years that adds £75/mth to the price, so I didn't go for those and I don't regret that decision at all! The ride on the standard 18's is nicely judged.
However, I did add Lapiz Blue paint to mine and that cost me £30 per month ..... but it looks beautiful and gets favorable comments all the time!

They want an extra £40/month, I've replied saying if they can keep it in line with what I'm currently paying it would make the extension a very easy decision... Let's see what they come back with!

Drove one today - with the 19” wheels and no DCC.
Felt absolutely fine.
Mrs and son were sat in the back and said if felt far more comfortable ride wise than my M2 Comp.
First time I’ve driven a VW and was very impressed by it.

So she’s specced one in black (or red...) with just the pan roof, black mirrors, 19” wheels and something else I can’t now remember.
Looks like we’ll be buying rather than leasing - lease with the options and 15k miles per year looks to be more £’s than a purchase.
Negotiated about 15% off list, plus some stuff thrown in, and in all reality she’ll do nearer 18-20k miles per year so the lease will cost even more (and we’d like to possibly change it in 2 - 3years anyway)
