Brilliant, just checked mine and it's gone into stage 3 preparation since the last time I checked this morning. Was supposed to be March 6th build start date so well chuffed.
This prompted me to check and I've moved to stage 3 in the last few hrs also, my build date was 13th March.

Has mine missed the boat? Still in QC!

More filler needed probably.
I think they drove mine into the back of yours on the way out the factory mate!!! biggrin

On a more serious note, if your car is coming from Sheffield Audi (Which is actually in Chesterfield lol) it might be worth giving them a call like I did today as mine is still showing as in QC on the online tracker. The girl in the fleet dept confirmed that mine has left the factory and heading to the port for shipping so I expect the same for yours...

Also some news for those of you with cars coming from Audi Sheffield (Which is in Chesterfield)...

You may recall earlier in this thread that I mentioned that it wasn't possible to collect the car from there due to it being a PDI centre. This is based on what a guy told me last year from Audi Sheffield when I called...

Anyway today I've spoken to a lady in the fleet dept who gave me an update on my order status and she confirmed that I was able to collect the car from them if I wished or I could have the car sent on a trailer to my door (The latter being my most probable option)

Just thought I'd share it with you...

Did she mention any cost for having it delivered via a trailer? Only reason I ask is because I was quoted £150+VAT lol that was an email from Fleetsauce though.

I'm only a few miles from their so will collect.

It is in the middle of no where and a bit drab, I would expect far from a showroom experience and it's a pain to get to. It's the old gilders VW site at Broombank, Chesterfield.

Random question to those already with the cars...what fuel do you run the car on? Does it need high-octane fuel e.g. Shell V-Power?
Using V Power in mine. As far as I am aware it isn't a requirement but I would always run a car like this on Tesco Momentum or V Power.

http://www.miglior.co.uk/ Jay at Miglior in Accrington - I wouldnt even consider anyone else. You will find cheaper but it wont be as good. You get what you pay for as for the most part you are paying for the man hours involved. Jay did my Golf R and S5. Take a look at the Miglior Detailing Facebook page for a look at the results the produce. You will also see a few cars that were taken elsewhere that he had to then sort out!
I had a new car detail on the S5 with the wheels off option.

Ask the dealer to not do any form of cleaning on the car inside or out. They will likely see it as a strange request (most dealers are not used to it) but be insistant. Tell them to only remove the packaging that is required to come off for the PD inspection by the dealer (checking the car for damage etc) and leave everything else as is. My car came with carboard wtill attached to the inside and bits of blue foam along the boot close, covers on the seats etc.
Ideally get it dropped off at the detailer just to save hassle and miles on the clock. I had to get mine delivered to work so i drove it.
Forgive my ignorance, but why go to the expense of having a brand new car detailed? I can understand the expense after a few k on the clock to keep it top notch.
Are you suggesting that dealers make a pigs ear of prepping it before collection, and if so what are the issues in your experience?
Yes dealers almost always make a pigs ear of it. They simply do not have the time, skill or equipment to do it properly. Thats the short and easy answer.
Having a new car and then seeing it under light or in the sun for the first time and seeing swirls everywhere is painful (to me anyway).
Dont get me wrong I can see why people would not see the point especially on a lease but I have had it done on my Golf R and now the S5. We didnt get it done on the Polo GTI my wife has mainly because it's non-met white and I wasnt going to pay for hers to be done.
One of the main issues is that the cars are moved from the factory to the docks by train. Iron filings from the trains brakes land on the cars as well as other contaminants. The car ends up at the dealer who then removes the packaging and starts washing it effectively exfoliating the paint. A proper decontamination process needs to take place. Also a new car will almost always have little marks here and there from transport - a common issue is scrapes due to the security guards walking sideways past the tightly packed cars and there security badges etc scrape the paintwork (My Golf R had this). I find it frustrating a new car is delivered in such a state.
I could ramble on and show pics etc but I dont want to bore everyone to death on the subject!

I think it depends on your dealer.. as mentioned before my car was immaculate and had a great deep detailing from Ayr audi. They also repeated it when I had it in the other day for some squeaks. My a4 which was delivered from down south has no swirls or marks whatsoever however it didn't have the same level of detailing as my s5 (it was just clean as opposed to detailed)

I haven't had a new car yet that has come with any small scratches or marks. If I did they would be going back!

You may be unlucky though and get a poor dealer valet or a dealer which tries to hide scratches/imperfections and some people do enjoy the guarantee that it is perfect. I may have done it if I was getting car delivered in summer and didn't live in West Scotland where the roads are generally ste!

Simon - on a side note... have you had your car in yet for the engine ticking?

Just spoke to Audi again regarding my car, the proposed date for the dealer to receive the car is back end of next week as its still waiting to put on a truck from the port.

They aim to delivery week commencing 13th, they said they will either drive the cars or deliver in trailer however his depends on where you live but you can request trailer if you wish but this may delay delivery time by 1-3 days, which is worth it in my opinion.

She also said you can pick up the car from there PDI site anytime mon-fri.

Happy days

It will look immaculate for around a dozen washes. The treatment they put on the showroom cars hides imperfections and is applied to new cars. It wears off afer a dozen or so washes. Then the truth is revealed. Get your car under some lights and there will be imperfections, swirls and marks I have no doubt. Car dealers prep they dont detail - they simply dont have the time or tools. You should see the state some Porsches arrive in....

There is an Audi TT out for delivery this morning and the delivery driver has stopped off at the local side of the road car wash to get it cleaned just before he drops it to the customer - shocking!

No not yet I had to cancel and havent rebooked it. I opened the bonnet for the first time the other day and the ticking is alarmingly loud. Rubbish if Audi are saying that is just the way it is but i will get it looked at. Infact ill re-book it on lunch.

JACOB - can the S5 be used as a wireless hotspot? I have set up Audi Connect but cant see any option for this. Also, have you set up a shortcut for changing driver modes via the steering wheel as opposed to the dash switch? How did you set this up? Cheers!

Agreed that some places don't do a full valet however I have seen some of the cars getting done at Ayr audi and it seems a pretty good job to me! Don't know if they do different cars to different levels. My car has been washed weekly since the firest clean and I can't see any swirls or marks yet. A friend of my who used to detail cars said he was surprised by how good the job was.

I hope the ticking gets quieter... it is certainly better on warmer days.

I haven't found the WiFi hotspot option. I read about some people activating it through a vcds thingy. I'm not to fussed about that feature though.

I did set up the shortcut button on steering wheel for drive select... it is much easier to change whilst driving. Can't remember how to do it but I'm sure i read the instructions in manual.

Got to try out the speed cameras and it's very useful.. highlighted all the cameras on my route to Edinburgh. As I have the VC zoomed in on maps I always see the cameras even if the main display is zoomed out on motorways.

Just had an update from my broker. Looks like my car is due at the dealership in the 2nd week of April, despite it being moved to stage 3 preparation stage yesterday. I would have thought delivery would have been sooner as that essentially means that the original build date of 13th March hasnt actually moved (assuming4-5 week turnaround from build start date to delivery to dealer).

Anyone else who had or8ginal 13th march build date and move to prep stage yesterday have a similar delivery timeline?

Test drove an S5 for the first time this morning and thought I'd drop my thoughts in here.

Disclaimer: I'm a pretty inexperienced driver - the only cars I'd driven before today are the Corsa I took my test in, a Fiesta and the C250d Merc I currently drive. I've been a regular passenger in M5s & Caymans, and more recently in P90d's and 458's. I know this is an S5 thread so I don't expect unbiased thoughts in response but I imagine that I am very much the S5's target market - someone who wants a composed cruising experience with the ability to rev it up when desired.

I had about 20 mins with the S5. It felt very stable, very composed, very 'sticky' to the road. Accelerator pedal felt incredibly responsive for me (coming from a 250d ...) and I frequently reached 80mph when I felt like I was going 50mph. Cabin was as nice as my Merc and the technology is a step ahead which is a big deal for me.

My main gripe was the noise - I expected a lot of noise and I really didn't get it. At low revs there was a bit but it quickly died off. I don't know whether the noise exists but the cabin insulates me from it or if it's just not that loud.

Ok I sort of get your point, although if my 50 grand car is not perfect when collected in a few weeks time I shall just keep throwing it back at them until it was, or even get them to pay to have it done professionally if they are incapable of doing this correctly themselves. TBH I have waited long enough for it, so if that was the case a few more days getting them to make sure it was perfect won't hurt, And if it was damaged like your Golf R was then I really would go ape!!

You make a good point actually. If my car is as bad as Simon says his experiences says it may well be, then I probably should get Audi to do a proper job of it, at their expense. Any scratches will need to be fixed at their expense too. Question is, how would you possibly prove that any light scratches were done during transport/ factory etc instead of by the owner.

I know a few people have mentioned how clean their new cars were from Ayr Audi - anyone with any experience from Sheffield Audi?

After reading this I've just made a call to my dealer as mine was showing stage 3 prep from yesterday morning, with 6th March build. She's going to make some calls and get back to me asap as I explained the main reason for chasing was the tax issue. I'll update as soon as I hear back from her.
