Can you help?!

I've had my S5 Sportback for around 2 months now and I've come across a few things that i'm hoping the forum can clarify before i speak to my dealer. This is predominantly aimed at those of you who already have an S5 Sportback (with basic spec or some standalone options e.g. privacy glass, non-standard paint, flat bottom steering, etc.).

I saw a near identical S5 to mine in a car park the other day (first one I've seen near me so no longer have the exclusive bragging rights). I noticed that they had chrome trims on the door handles whereas mine are all brilliant black to match the paintwork. Having looked through the Audi website, I can see the chrome trimmed handles being listed as standard spec so wondering if everyone has these and i'm the only unfortunate one? I didn't see these being part of the MY18 update either.

Following on from this i decided to see if any other things were missing from my car. Couldn't find much information about it in Audi's brochure, price list or configurator but most of the YouTube videos show the S5 as having fog lights in the front bumper whereas most of the images on this forum (and my own car) just have the black plastic insert. Does anyone know if the fog lights are extra options?

Lastly, just throwing one more thing out there, does anyone have door sill trims in the rear? I have the illuminated ones in the front and most videos I have managed to get footage from do not have any sill trims in the rear but you never know.

I am hoping that those of us who got the first/early batches of these vehicles aren't being shortchanged in any way!

Thanks in advance for any input you can offer guys/gals smile
Mine have chrome handles (I am fairly certain) and it was built early march.

The "fog lights" you speak of aren't fog lights, they are cameras for the assistance pack tour.

I don't think I have sill trims in the rear.

My door handles have chrome pieces at the top of each handle. [should be standard]
I do have fog lights, [should be standard]
but like Tom says are you confusing with assistance cameras in the grille?
No sill trims in the rear, only illuminated ones at the front. [should be standard]

South of France / Northern Spain tour in the S5 SB for anyone considering doing similar………..

Have just returned from holiday in the S5 SB having driven around 1300 miles using a ferry from Portsmouth to Caen and onto Biarritz & San Sebastian. I have to say the car performed flawlessly, and was amazingly comfortable without the usual ‘bum ache’ you normally get after a few hundred miles.
A great bonus was being able to switch the MMI to KPH from MPH and distance into kilometres. I have to say also the VC was worth its weight in gold as I had a full map view (zoomed in and out using the steering wheel control), and the wife controlled the entertainment on the dash pad without any interference.

Fuel consumption

Had the wife in front, 2 kids in the back, a Thule roof rack with a large top box, 3 large heavy suitcases and other bits & pieces and managed an average of 30mpg @ 85mph for the whole trip in efficiency mode all the way which was really not bad considering the weight and drag of the roof box. Also, the eco air con was also on most of the time.

Power

The car although in efficiency mode 100% of the time, fully loaded still pulled like a train and was there was no issues in overtaking on the AutoRoute’s.

Sat Nav

Worked flawlessly (in normal mode, not Google Earth) for UK, France and Spain, and saved us at least two hours of traffic ques as it re-routed us nicely where there were hold ups.

Wi-Fi

Used an unlimited data 3 SIM card, and this worked for 90% of the journey, so great for the kids in the rear with their iPad, phones, & Kindle.

Space

We had a lot of luggage with still a little room to spare. Tricky without a roof box though.

Air Con

Worked great in 30 degree sunshine.

Driver Assist

Saved me from running over an idiot Frenchman who suddenly pulled out in front of us on a bike from a side street.

Other

Car finder is a great app when exploring foreign cities, and remembering where you parked it!
The motion alarm went off on the ferry, and was reset using the phone app as the cargo doors were locked.

In general, I am very impressed with this car so far and it is a great comfortable tourer for those inclined.

Plain black handles on my standard brill black painted car.
No fog lights on the front.
Not looked closely at the rear sill trims.

Great to know it ticks all the boxes! I am off on a 'road trip' soon, driving from the north of England down to Spa Francorchampa to see the Belgian gradpndd prix, can't wait. Will have a boot full of camping gear but no roof box needed.

Great to know the sat nav works well - did you try and use googlemaps instead of normal? I guess as you had your own sim in rather than using the Audi embedded sim, you didn't? Keen to know whether the Audi sim works overseas..international roaming as it were

I have read somewhere that the MMI knows from the sat nag where you are and adjusts the headlights to dip correctly..though I have matrix lights so not sure how relevant it is anyway

Did you display GB plates? If so what sort, I am not keen on putting stickers on the paintwork, have seen magnetic ones but they will be no good for the plastic front bumper.

Thanks for your response. Could you kindly post/send me pics of the chrome trim handles and your fog lights please? Did you add any options/packs on your car?

My reference to the fog lights wasn't to the grille area but to the two areas at the bottom of the front bumper, just above the splitter. There seems to be two round fog lights embedded in lots of online pics/videos however mine is a full matt black honeycomb effect insert. See pics below.

no fogs for me either dude. Black SB Marc 17 but I do have chrome handle tops.

In that pic it doesn't look like fogs but as mentioned those camera thingys. Interesting tho if you press the "front fog" button between the light dial its widens the LED light field to mimic fogs.

They are the cameras for the ACC, not fog lights. I think any fog lights the car has (didn;t think there were any TBH) will be in the main cluster.

My options were:

Mythos Black Metallic
Red Leather
VC
FBSW
Carbon Fibre Trim
Rear Tints
Fold Away Tow Bar

The fog lights are built into the main front light units on UK models.

Here is a picture of the chromed topped door handles.

BTW, the two round things you mention in the grille are front parking sensors ( 2 of 4) the two others are slightly lower down to the right of each panel.

Did not need a GB sticker as it is on the number plates.

So, metallic paint = chrome handles and flat paint = body colour handles.
Can anyone disprove this theory?

First trip to France in April Google Maps did not work. Audi were useless in identifying why. On my second visit in June everything worked fine. I can only conclude that Audi were slow off the mark getting the SIM cards registered for Europe-wide.

First time posting on the forum. found this thread and found it interesting as I placed an order for an S5 Sportback last month. I have to say this car has tempted me away from my usual BMW models, currently running a X5 3.0d and a 640d ... the third 640d we have had so I fancied something a little different. I have specced -

Ibis White
Red Interior
Light and Vision Pack
Red Calipers
Carbon Trim
Flat Bottom Steering Wheel
Privacy Glass
Reversing Camera

Ended up ordering through our local Audi dealer as the price seemed comparable with Freedom Leasing etc less the admin cost. Only disappointing thing so far was delivery was quoted at 8-12 weeks .. now have been told that car is estimated to enter production early December. Reading through the posts long delivery seems to be typical... although not as bad as a Porsche Macan I ended up cancelling after having to wait over a year!

5om, which colour car did you get? Trying to see if standard paint comes without chrome trim handles.

I ordered my S5 Sportback on 31st July. I've just checked your audi tracking today (first time it's worked) and it's arrived in the UK!! Should hopefully have it early Sept?

Spec is:
Navarra Blue
Comfort and Sound
Light and Vision
Flat bottom steering wheel
Pan roof
Privacy
Red brake callipers

Not sure how it's all be done in 2 weeks. I would guess the dealer placed a bulk order and my spec matched one of those?

Looking forward to delivery!

How strange, I thought the chrome on handles was standard regardless of colour. Does not mention this omission on Audi config that I can see. Anyone on here got a B9 S5 with chrome handles on a solid colour other than black???
