Slightly off topic but has anyone been able to successfully connect any devices to the car WiFi? I wanted to connect a dashcam to it (cloud service) but not sure if its possible.

Also my Google Earth has been playing up last 2 days where it is getting stuck on "initialising" but not sure if its car or server related? The standard maps continue to work fine. Anyone else experiencing the same?

Is anyone able to use streetview? I’ve never been able to use it and when my car was with dealer 2 months ago for service they said it’s been discontinued. I was sceptical as mine has never worked (although can use satellite view) but thought I’d check with you guys first to see if anyone has been able to use it recently.

I think it might have been removed. I tried a few weeks ago to no avail but then again it wasn't that convenient to get into either.

On a positive note though Google earth has started working again. I hope Audi don't underestimate how important some of the Google stuff is with Audi Connect. I.e. other than the fuel prices most of it is not of interest at all.

Streetview has been removed since around Feb, IIRC. Definitely affects B8's with Audi Connect as well, and probably all other models.

Thanks. It’s been difficult for me to assess as I have never been able to access it.

Regarding google earth/satellite view do you find it useful? I find it looks cool but not the most practical - difficult to read road names etc and I usually revert to traditional view. To be honest I don’t find google maps that great generally which is odd as everyone else seems to rave about it (which suggests I am probably not using it properly!)

In a car it's just eye candy, really. I have it on, but TBH I don't tend to read road names etc off the map. I mostly use the info in the DIS display.

When you say " I don’t find google maps that great", do you mean on a PC, a phone or some other way? And what do you use instead?

If I'm going somewhere new and I need to *really* know when I'm going to get there and the best route, it's Google Maps on the 'phone every time. Better routing, accurate ETA, up-to-date traffic.

Glad to see its working again!

In regards to "in car hotspot" are we required to purchase a data plan in order to use it? I tried connecting to it the other day and was taken to registration site which once I completed it offered me various data plans:

30 Days 2GB £13.50
30 Days 2GB £29.50
365 Days 25GB £132

I know we have Audi Connect for 36 months inclusive but not sure if this should be part of it or not...

Its a shame that Audi Connect uses Google for the Earth images and to allow a search but not for the actual maps (I can imagine this would use a lot of data though) or the traffic.

I think you can stick a SIM in and use that. But I just use my 4G router ( about #20 for 16GB a month) as I use it on customer sites as well adn I can't be arsed to swap sims over constantly.

Thanks for clarifying - wasn't sure if it was something which should be included or not.

The Audi pre-sense warning has come on the last few days, the last one it actually started breaking, bit worrying when doing 40 mph.

Going to book it in but wanted to check if anyone else has experienced this?

Yes, but only in circumstances where you might expect it i.e. turning a sharp corner with pedestrians on the pavement ahead, or when someone is in the road walking across. It did activate once on the motorway when someone braked very hard in front of me too.

You can adjust the sensitivity of pre-sense in the MMI menu

+1
I need to wait till Oct 1.
These were the options:
3 months ah hoc guaranteed
6 or 12 months formal
Quite to buy
Go to auction and buy smile

So the formal extension is a lottery as the price will vary day to day and maybe it’s best to wait or maybe it’s not smile lady said it depends on the computer and residual value. If I have done less miles so far about 12k then that might help as residual value will be higher. Who knows!

I wanna keep the s5 or perhaps the sQ5 or x3 m40i next if the man maths work

Interesting re the formal extension. I suppose you could ring every few weeks or maybe once a month (up until the end date) and if you get a price you are happy with you take it or just keep ringing.

Might be an idea if we share quotes (assuming people are willing to) so we can compare and get a better idea of what to expect/aim for.

I think I read on another lease thread that someone took out the informal extension (3 months) and then near the end of that asked for a formal quote and it was much cheaper than before...

Clear road for me, car slammed the brake on for no reason. Worrying so switching it off until looked at.

Yeah mine has been intermittent too. Must be server side then.
