Golf GTD Estate, anyone got one?
Discussion
I've got a MK7 GTD hatch with DSG as a company car, with the reversing camera and winter pack (heated seats etc). It is a brilliant everyday car, plenty quick enough, adaptive cruise control is the ultimate for easy wafting about, simply turn it on, set maximum speed and trailing distance, and you just need to steer the car.
It handles well, has decent toys, is fun (compared to 99% of "company cars"), looks good, and I can only see the added space of the estate being a plus.

Well it was too late for the camera, but it is here - just in time for the Mk7.5!
Didn't expect it to have the 'soundaktor' in Sport mode, bit weird! Otherwise seems great.
My MFD and nav screen seem to have blue highlights, is this correct or is my car set up as an 'R'?
Yeah, the sound thing is a little odd. Mine stays in Sport mode.Didn't expect it to have the 'soundaktor' in Sport mode, bit weird! Otherwise seems great.

Not sure on the blue highlights. I'll check when I'm next out in it.
Heres mine.
Great car, put around 3600 miles on it in just over a month. A few rattles now starting to crop up but they aren't TOO bad.
MPG wise I was very disappointed to start with, struggled to reach 50mpg. This seems to have gone up quite a bit now though generally. On a run from Manchester to Leeds last week I managed 58.5mpg, which I was very impressed with considering its a DSG. On the other hand I can struggle to reach 50 on some long runs even taking it very steady.
It's torquey enough on the motorway and the adaptive cruise combined with DSG makes it a great wafting mobile.
Coming from a Mk7 Fiesta ST it's quite a change. In the Golf I never have any real 'feel' to drive it fast, I don't find myself wanting to take it out for a drive on the weekend like I did with the Fiesta. However, it's absolutely spot on for work, comfortable, economical and the boot is perfect for me.
If it wasn't a lease then I would be looking in to the bluefin kit just to liven it up a bit, but for what I need it for it's fine as it is.
Here she is the day she was delivered, white is a terrible colour for picking up tar and stone chips but it was the only free colour I believe. Completely standard as the spec is enough for me.

That is odd, mine has a blue line where yours has grey. When changing settings etc on the main screen everything has a blue box round when you move the wheel.
I was in a newer GTD today (66-plate) and it had a Red line! So no idea what they're supposed to have, but not sure mine was right either now...va1o said:

Mine is '66 too, had it a couple of weeks now. My 'line' is blue on all screens (my Leon changed colour depending on data, audio, nav etc)Not sure what is going on but being picky I don't like the blue and would prefer red/grey!

My 66 plate is exactly the same as this, and the nav screen etc comes up with the blue lines.Hatchback GTD by the way
Hi folks,
I am planning on getting a 65/16/66 plate GTD hatch in October this year as an upgrade on a MK4 75ps job but I do a proportion of short town and city journeys as well as 50-300 mile business runs. What kind of miles do you get to the tank with a careful right foot? Am I going to do any lasting damage if say, 40% of my driving is under a couple of miles? And more specifically, do you feel the GTD is value for money over its Match/GT counterparts? Apologies if these are things that have been done to death but I figured this was the best place to ask!

Maybe something to do with it being towards the end of the production run?
The dash is different on the new Ines isn't it so maybe they're running stock down?
I think the best I've had from a tank was 460ish before I stopped playing fuel light bingo. My driving is quite mixed, would say I'm about 60/40 split between motorways/single carriageway & back roads.
Can't really comment on Match/GT comparisons as I didn't consider either of them, just went straight for a GTD.

I've just changed over from the 2.0 TDi SE (now a Match) 63 plate to a GTD and it's a great improvement, I liked the old SE but the GTD is a more complete proposition. Good handling, better specced, more responsive and more composed in appearance.
The improved lateral support from the seats, the increased distinction between the driving modes, better options all uplift the experience. I am a 70-80 miles into ownership, economy looks on a par if driven lightly. But the GTD does make you more inclined to forgo the MPG for the MPH.
