GOLF GTI mk7 tyres - real experiences please

Hi Everyone
I am looking at replacing all 4 boots on my 65 plate GTI on 18's. I am thinking the right tyre for me is either the Michelin PS4 or Goodyear Eagle F1 Asym 5 (spared a thought for the Dunlops too). The car is used as my daily driver (mainly M4/M25) so for me, comfort and cabin noise are important, I know either of these tyres will be fine in the performance dept.
From what I read online and anecdotally, the Goodyear seems to be the better choice, but there dont seem to be many folks that have experience of both. Anyone able to speak from experience?

My front PS4s are down to <3mm after about 8k miles. Even wear but very soft.
Eagle F1s to me felt just as good in the dry and superior in the wet (and that was 3s rather than 5s). I found that in the wet the front end had a scrubby, surprisingly early break away that I've simply never experienced on the Goodyears (or Hankooks, actually). I've not managed to wear any out myself yet. A friend has them on his S3 and they last ages.
Goodyear all the way for me; unless you don't care about cost, wear, or driving in the rain.
Edit: I have the same car and am surrounded by fast cars all day. I've driven pretty much every performance tyre on the market.

If you end up going for the Michelins, as you have 19s, I would go for PS4S over the PS4. I have these on my Scirocco and in my opinion they are pretty damn good.I have a mk7.5 GTI that will need a pair of 19" tyres on the front soon and torn between those and PS4.

Just gone Michelin to Goodyear on the front; improved traction, a smidge less noise, and ultimately higher wet grip. I'd struggle to pick between them in the dry. Totally subjective but I've also broken my MPG record on them (first 40 MPG average run).
There are two corners on my drive home where if I've the space to play on Michelins I'd have to baby first gear and short to second then feed it in. On the Goodyears it will take almost everything in first and flat in second. A notoriously slippy (when wet) roundabout always saw the Michelins start to scrub that the Goodyears don't seem to care about.
The Michelin is still a bloody good tyre (miles ahead of a P Zero for example) but I'd give the edge all round to Goodyear. That they're slightly cheaper is a very pleasant bonus. 225.40.18 Asymmetric 5 were 91 each fitted.

During my Vw service the other tyre the report said my PS4 front tyres are down to 5.5mm evenly. I’ve covered approx 3,000 on them so far. I’m not sure what a new PS4 tyre depth is, but googling says 8mm.
I’m surprised they’ve worn so quickly as they certainly haven’t been driven hard.

Sounds about right to me, although in my experience the wear rate of tyres on the GTIs I’ve owned has never been even, but that’s more to do with the type of driving I do (very little motorway use). PS4s are softer compound tyres, I think you’d do well to cover 10k miles on them, particularly the fronts. I’m surprised they’ve worn so quickly as they certainly haven’t been driven hard.
Picture below of a Goodyear AS3 off the front of my GTD after approximately 35,000 miles in 21 months. I was impressed with how even the wear was down to 2mm. Slight bit of cracking visible in the tread. I do a lot of motorway miles. Replaced these with AS5 which are going very well after 10,000. The rear AS3 have done 43,000 and have 6mm on them still. The original horrible Bridgestones lasted 15,000 on the front and 44,000 on the back (and still had more miles on them to be fair).

Old thread now, but had the GTI in for MOT and service today, with all the big 40k jobs at once (DSG service, plugs etc). Service picked up that the front tyres are getting a bit thin on tread. Have ordered a pair of Pilot Sport 5 for fitting on Wednesday, so the PS4s on the back will get rotated to the front again
Nice even wear on the PS4s. so nothing to complain about here (18" wheels)
