Hi,

Possibly a long shot, but I'm looking to see if there are any fellow RS6 (C7) owner's out there that currently have a factory Sports Exhaust on their car, which they would be interested in swapping for a 7 month old Milltek Cat-Back system that I had fitted to my car.

Further details are http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/a...

Let's just say not everyone thinks it sounds as cool as I do...!!

Thanks
Rob

Rob,

Try asking over on the C7 RS6 forum: https://forum.rs246.com/viewforum.php?f=76

No worries Rob,

It's a good bunch over on the forum and I'd be surprised if someone didn't fancy the swap as I've heard a lot of those that have the Audi performance exhaust complain it is too quiet! I've just changed to a RS3 with the Audi performance exhaust and it's spot on! biggrin

Before dropping it entirely you can just fit the resonated center section (£350).

Dr G - wise words!

I've asked the supplier / fitter the question with regards to how much quieter, or more importantly where it would lose some noise, although never an easy one to answer without hearing it on a car I guess. I personally quite like it, but the issue I have with some others... is when the valves open past 2,500 circa revs, then admittedly all hell breaks lose. Quieting this down would be helpful. Milltek are due to bring out some revised software where the valves don't open until 5,000 rpm, but it's not yet available. It may be a combination of the two could work.

Resonated system with valves closed has a pleasing rumble compared to the factory system but is not raucous or antisocial and does not boom at steady speeds. With valves open it's pretty naughty.

I don't personally rate the non-resonated system.

Dr G - Advice was taken and they have two options; both are resonated with option 1 described as about the same as a factory Audi sports exhaust and option 2, 4db louder than option 1 and described as between option 1 and the non-resonated (louder), which is what I currently have.

I've gone for option 2, so hopefully that will resolve any politics!

Many thanks!

Hi

I did. I took the advice and changed to a resonated, which has made all the difference, so sorry to no longer offer.

What I would say (generally) to 'all' IMO is if you can, get the factory sports exhaust, as the aftermarket ones are not that flattering vs cost to accentuating a 'V8 Noise' as it tends to be quite metallic and harsh rather than rounded and burbly, but I would still recommend as an alternative should you not have the option of a stock sports exhaust, the Milltek resonated, as it's not too expensive (circa £1,500) and seems to be a little louder (but not offensive) than the factory Sports.

I had a non res milly in my 2013 RS6

Got the OEM sports exhaust in my 2016 PE RS6 now

All I can say if the non OEM sports exhaust must be pathetic because the OEM sports exhaust is crap!!

I'd have had your milly off you if you still had it!

Depends on who you are smile. If you are the sort of person who likes driving through towns with your exhaust switched to loud to attract attention then go Milltek. If you prefer a more subtle approach then the factory sports exhaust is likely to suit you well.

Or maybe he just likes the sound of the v8 himself. I also agree the sports exhaust is way to quiet.

I did not mean to have a go at anyone, just that my experience of aftermarket exhausts on RS6s is mainly in London being driving everywhere fast in 1st and 2nd between lights - seemingly to show everyone what they have got. I fully understand the desire to hear the V8 more, but not in your local High St - just makes you look a plonker. Trouble is with louder exhausts is that they are loud most of the time even with flaps. I don't even like the exuberant start up with the standard sports exhaust - at least not when outside the village shop on a Sunday morning. Perhaps I am just an introverted old fart smile
