Thanks for the info on the Cupra but people are now being given December/January build dates.

That's a little too far for me so I'm still on the look out for a GTI.

Speaking of build dates, has anyone ordered one recently and if so what date were you given?

I ordered a GTi at start of July. Dealer gave me a build date of mid Sept but online chat gives me an unconfirmed build of week comm 9 Oct.

Has anyone noticed a creaking sound when driving their GTI, especially under heavy acceleration or driving at an angle e.g. Up a steep driveway?

I didn't notice this for the first 600 or so miles, but now I'm consistently hearing it (currently at 1200 miles), it's fairly subtle and sounds like the the all the door plastics are being flexed. I don't remember this with my previous MK7 GTD.

Other than this, car drives fantastically and I'm getting very close to 40mpg average over my 20 mile each way commutes. I do use ECO mode as it allows the DSG to coast in neutral which is excellent when approaching roundabouts etc if you plan it correctly.
I'm at similar miles, getting similar MPG on the 16 mile commute though mine is the manual. No noises like you mention though.

Goodness gents, give it some and you will not get that sort of mpg!

I don't use Eco mode, enjoy spirited driving, aircon always on, not much motorway and have a long term average across 2000 miles or so of just over 40mpg.

That's very strange. I cannot get 40mpg average when sitting at 77mph (indicated) for a couple of hundred miles

Your spirited driving must be a lot different to mine, ha

To be fair, on a 250 mile, 4 hour journey to Devon I got nearly 40 mpg on the computer

Has it always been this difficult to secure a deal?

I've been on the phone to 2 companies who are both saying their website is wrong and the overall quote is actually £450 higher now.

The 3rd I sent off my proposal an hour after I received it to wake up to an email saying the stock had gone but they could offer me a deal at £400 higher than previously quoted.

Anyone have any luck recently and at what price?

I ordered on 3rd April for delivery in June, Golf GTI 5dr DSG. its been delayed and delayed and delayed. My most recent UNCONFIRMED build week is 38, still no SLI so getting harder to extend my current lease which i keep extending. Was promised a loan car since 16th July and only just today had a call from VW Support about a loan GTI DSG to cover me through to 21st October.

Regrettably the use of click-bait from brokers seems to be fairly common from what I've seen in my short membership at PH. I think the key is to find an initial broker price and then take that to a main dealer for matching/comparison. Main dealers charge no fees and, from my experience only offer a price if they can actually secure a vehicle, and usually get first dibs.

Ordered our 5dr DSG GTI via a VW Dealer 5th May. Their original predictions were a July-August delivery.

It arrived with them yesterday, but we've opted to wait for Sept 1st deliver. cool

Emailed dealer on Monday to enquire re final paperwork in preparation for Sept 1st delivery. No response. Emailed again Wednesday. No response. Phoned Thursday.
"You didn't get a response as he's on holiday" says another salesman.
"No problem" says I. "Just want to know what time you want us to collect the car on the 1st?"
"The 1st??? You must be joking! Do you know how busy we get? You'll have to wait until the 5th at the earliest"

mad

Am I being unreasonable to expect the car on the 1st when they've known for almost 3 weeks that's when we wanted it?

I think that if they have retail customers paying full whack it is realistic if you are getting something at a bargain price that you are not treated like royalty but more of a commodity.
That's no excuse for poor or no communication though.
Look at it from the sales teams point of view, they have done the deal, the profit will be tight their time is better spent on new deals or maintaining regular retail customers.

Welcome to the wonderful world of vw leasing! You are just a number.....a lowly number.
