Hi all,

Sorry to hijack a thread but pd related.

Has anyone had PO201 or 202 fault before?

I have a pd130 at 158k, got the 201 code in January so changed the harness which got rid of the code and now 202 has been found and engine is massively vibrating. I can clear the code while engine is off but as soon as I switch on the fault comes back.

Would this be an injector or the harness again?

I really love the pd engine and has managed to get me 100k since purchasing it in 2013.

Any help would be greatly appriciated.

What age is the car? Po201 is short circuit in injector 1. Suspect bits are 1) The injector - so swap them over for an unrelated cylinder, and see what happens. 2) Wiring loom inside the head, but id you fitted it correctly last time, probably not that. 3) That stupid turn-y connector thing at the end of the head - make sure all the pins are held securely in the housing, and they are not forcing themselves out of the housing when you do it up. 4) Wiring loom between the ECU and the turny connector (unlikely but theoretically possible) 5) ECU has gone belly up. Before condemning the ECU, just check all the powers and grounds. It's probably not the ECU unless it's been sitting in a foot of water, in which case, it probably is.

Thanks for replying bearman,

It's an 05plate ibiza.

I'll have alook at the harness from the outside tomorrow. As it was a pain to get the rocker cover off as the exhaust manifold and egr were slightly in the way. So had to jiggle it around.

Nice to see a thread about this good old engine. Let me give my 10 cents in this one about my still running PD engine from 2003 in a Golf 4

I also had such errors with my PD engine, I had many weird errors with hard to start and several ( including these ) error.. With me all problems went after i replaced the DMF. the play on the DMF was too big for the pd engine to run normally. I put a fixed flywheel in my engine and it runs like a charm now. No more virating or bad idle. The DMF was clearly a source of problem with this engine.

My PD engine is on 500.000 kilometres. No oil need to be add between every 15.000 oil change.

Replaced on engine :
Tandem pump. Was leaking diesel the well known problem with this pump ( at 247.000 km )
Several rubber hoses around the tandempump replaced as they were dissolved due to the diesel leakage
Starter motor, It was not turning anymore. ( 421.00 km )
Timing belt replaced now 4 times. Every 120.000 km. But i stay in safety doing it every 110.000 km
I have replaced the rubbers on the injectors now twice. They were a bit worn. This helps the engine keep its health ( 1st at 294.00 km and 2nd at 410.000 km )
free run coupler on Alternator ( or how do you call this part ) ( It break after i did my seal replacement on 410.000 km )

Parts that show wear on this milage :
Camshaft lobes are a bit worn. Not very much, I descided to keep it like that as the engine still runs well
Gearbox start to make slight sound in 3rd and 4th gear. It has been now for around 100.000. Eventually it will go but for now its still not very hard sound.
Cylinderhead shows marks of the injectors. But after putting the new rubbers i did a pressure test and i still have a tight seal. The guy at the diesel workshop told me there are now modified rubber rings for the injectors to better the seal and extend the life of the cylinderhead. Maybe worth trying in future.

My pd engine is 1st generation one from 2003. Seemingly the younger ones are not so strong i have been told by the diesel shop where i let them test my injectors on 467.000 km The injectors were cleaned and did not need any overhaul they were fine. I did not had any injector issue since i drive this car. So i was kinda suprised to see pd engine related with injector issues. Even at the diesel workshop where they test my injectors they told me its a very robust system. Only the weak part is the camshaft. They told me if you do regular oil changes on time with the right oil you will have very less issues. as it seems right. I am still on my 1st camshaft.

Engine code : AXR
