Meh Hublots don't even start at that price point.
Then those lovely Patak P's don't they start at £30k+?
Hublots start at 5.5k....
PP start at 10k....

he could have purchased a nice watch if he didn’t drive like a tool!

He could have had a Hublot for himself and an Omega De Ville for the Mrs.

30 pages in and the same people still desperately trying to be right whilst getting their facts all wrong.

Why are you taking this so personally?

Do you not realise how badly you come across?

Good to see you got it sorted OP, hopefully all settled and that you can rest easy.

But admit it, you wanted to create a bit of drama and noise with some extravagant downshifting? winkwink
There's no shame, we've all done it!

TLDR:

If only Beanie was a Driving God like the rest of us here none of this would have happened and he would be shopping for watches right now!

Even I laughed at that one

So as a declaration of honesty, now it's all done,

I came here to ask some expert opinions and hopefully find some other experiences, which I am grateful that there were some of and some were very helpful

I thought piston heads was a community of like minded people out to help others,

What I found was it's actually mostly full of bitter and twisted individuals with nothing better to do than to enjoy other people's misfortunes. Pretty sad really, as there really is so much more to life, and I would never take pleasure in someone facing such an invoice, their fault or not. But I'm sure it makes you sleep better at night knowing that I didn't buy that Hublot penis extension you so seem to desire, I instead bought a new engine.

Anyway, I appreciate the genuine helpful comments folks, you know who you are.

I genuinely hope none of you find yourselves in the same situation, it's a stter. But at the end of the day it's only money, there are worse things in life, trust me.

Ahmen to that.

The internet is 90%+++ porn then the social media and then a tiny bit of shopping and then info.

However I'd say if you went to the pub and told the money shift story to your mates and something else might have coincidently failed at the exact point the data logged the overrev - the banter would be high. I guess banter exists everywhere though online you have no idea who where hold old young intellect arrogance attitude "innit crew" etc are responding.

I'd say pistonheads was quite different back before 2010ish. Now you see "talk to me" "meanwhile in x" "can we talk about x for a bit" style topics. It's possible that the topics have utterly been done to death so many times not much more you can add. Who knows but naturally don't take anything personally - or don't ever read any Guardian comments

FYI, I enjoyed my pie and custard.

For me, the "problem" that generated my line of questioning was the lack of noticing the money shift......hard to imagine.

glad it is sorted, sadly it cost that much, a lesson for us all I think

That is a prevailing question - though I'd imagine the money shifters are in the tiniest minority so it's urban myth as to what actually happens OR YouTube vids of idiots deliberately runining engines. But if music was high and the engines noise is piped/not real engine noise then who knows.

OP genuinely gutted for you and he £8k sometimes life's hard.

Serious question. Do you live in some alternative reality? What sticky said is about a million miles from your post. That may be the prevailing question

Did you get the old engine Beanie or is it a bit cheaper done as an exchange type deal?

Also, did they clear the over-rev from the ECU or does it remain there for evermore?

Glad to hear it's all settled and running properly again, I'd certainly be badgering them consistently for a tear down report on the removed engine though.

It’s already been stated that the old engine will go back to VW. It is also very unlikely that the op will be informed of what failed inside it as it will be packed up in a crate and sent away.

However unlikely if I had any doubt over the reason it failed and had just paid almost £7k I'd be pushing for a report. Maybe that's just me but £7k is a massive amount of money to just accept it and take a main dealer's word on the diagnosis.

VW, I'd assume will re-con the engine?

Haven't read the whole thread, but £6-8k for the engine replacement on an R sounds very expensive.

You can pick up a second-hand engine for ~£1k. Loads around. And get it fitted at an indy for ~£1k.

Should be £2-3k at most.

The point is that doesn't come with a VW warranty which the lease requires.

That's a good question. I assume VW don't sell reconditioned engines, so while they want the original one back, I have no idea what actually becomes of it.
