The Arteon lease thread

What are your impressions of quality of interior material and how it's all put together?
I have one coming 4th March to replace an Audi A4 - but I am not expecting the Arteon to be as good in interior terms (the Audi is superb in my view - just beautifully put together and understated).Although with Audi everything is not always as its seems (due to cost cutting I suspect). Mine is a 2018 A4 S-line and I was coming from a 2016 Golf Mk.7 Match - I was expecting the stereo (the standard set up in both cars) to be a bit better or maybe even a lot better than the Golf. Well, I was wrong - its not as good. For a ages this puzzled me until a few weeks ago I was trying the get something from the rear part of the boot and noticed there was only one parcel shelf speaker! On the inside there are two huge speaker grills but in reality the right hand one is fake! That explains the poor audio performance - so i am hoping for a significant improvement in the Arteon and that all its speakers will be real.
I have to declare I have never driven an Arteon - I had a quick look in one in a showroom two years ago but thats it. My decision to go for the lease was based solely on the 'deal', the spec and its looks in the pictures/Youtube reviews.
The Arteon speakers are better than my S4 so your probably in luck there. You’ll also be pleased with the interior space and comfort vs the A4.
Interior design is a bit well.. VW function over form, and forget about hustling it around bends, it’s heavy and makes it known, it is the payoff for comfy suspension but makes it a great cruiser.

I'm also considering Superb L&K, which you can't really leasy cheaply and it's a bit more expensive than Arteon to buy (better spec as well).
Nice car, although buy used and let some other mentalist take the hit on a L&K The Arteon has a fair bit more kerb appeal than the hatch superb but the estate for me is a looker.

Thanks for that JSO - I guess the S4 has a similar, if not the same, sound system as the A4 so its good to hear the Arteon is better! I think it will suit my driving style as I am more of an efficient cruising, easy on the gas pedal type of driver :-)Interior design is a bit well.. How you finding the 280?
Pretty good tbh, slight change of driving style coming from a V6 TDi A5I went for the 280 as added all the fun bits in without having to spec too much, the XDS Diff makes a difference pushing off some roundabouts and the paddles make the most of the grunt for overtaking etc.
I run it in Individual with E gearbox and suspension halfway between Normal and Comfort with ACC in Normal (reacts too slowly I find otherwise; also gives you eco gearbox mode without the coast function, which I've actually found, doesn't really increase the mpg all that much, better to just run in E and coast in gear)
Done nearly 30k in it (due its 3rd service next month; likely to tell me its going to need front tyres!)

Yep still on the original fronts, was hoping to eek them out a bit more but I think they need to be legal for it to (possibly) go back this summer
And that's why you rotate tyres...extend the life of the most worked tyres and get to send the car back not having to replace 2 tyres, within the 2 years I lease a car. Case in point, Skoda Superb that just went back, 2yrs and 25k miles, rotated the tyres at 15k, went back with 5mm on the now fronts and 4mm on the rears, At that rate, would have got an easy 30k from the set, probably 35k.

I'm looking at used ones due to luxury road tax on new ones (price hike last year taking RRP over £40K). 2-3 years old seems to be at right depreciation level. I'm going to test drive Superb Estate and Arteon with 272/280 engines and see how they drive. Keeping an eye on Arteon lease deals too. Totally agree and I did exactly that at the half way point on my last two leases - although at 9,000 miles a year maybe its not strictly needed in my case but takes the guesswork/hoping out of it for £20.Edited by Mark V GTD on Thursday 27th February 19:41

Jonesy - what was the arrangement for delivery from Listers - mine is coming from them but they would not let me collect the car as they are stored away from the dealership. I'm hoping they will deliver it on a trailer - was yours collected/driven or trailered? Would have e-mailed you but your e-mail preference is selected to 'off'.
Gareth - thats amazing tyre wear (or lack of wear)!! I usually swap mine front to back on a 2 year lease at the mid lease point and that pretty much ensures no new tyres needed provided you are not doing huge mileage - swap costs £20!
Sorry, Mark. Only just seen this post! Listers do driven delivery (did with my Scirocco too). Guy who dropped it off was great showed me what I needed to know. I then dropped him off at local train station, no hassle at all. Done 1500 miles in mine now and loving it. It’s a fantastic car for a 64 mile round trip commute each day. Very relaxed but can hustle quite well if needs be. Would have loved the R line, but like you (I think) it’s all about the deal and the SE does everything I need it too for a very keen price. I’m sure you will love yours. Not long to wait now!!Gareth - thats amazing tyre wear (or lack of wear)!! I went for the Urano grey myself. should be quite mean and moody with the dark wheels and tints.
I have re-posted Jonesy's pic of Urano Grey car from the main lease thread :-)Edited by Mark V GTD on Thursday 30th January 11:31

Jonesey - welcome back and glad you are enjoying the Arteon :-)
I insisted Listers trailer mine as I didn't want anyone else to have the pleasure of the first drive in it (which they agreed to at no extra charge). I would have been quite happy to go to their S-o-A showroom to collect it but they would not allow that. So it all happens next Wednesday, with the current Audi A4 being collected on the same day.
Gareth - glad you also had a great experience with the car and thanks for starting this thread! Whats the replacement car?

I've got a E-Class coupe for delivery next month, although it's been beset with delay after delay since ordering, so I'll believe it when I see it.Edited by Mark V GTD on Thursday 27th February 19:44

Fair enough with trailered delivery, doesn’t bother me particularly either way, bud. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised with the Arteon. It is a good all rounder and as I said very relaxing for my commute. The sound system is pretty good too, although I’m no sound quality expert. I started this thread just after I’d ordered an Arteon back in 2017, BCA have now collected it (no charges which was very reasonable as there were a few borderline things).
Did 31600 miles over 25 months (had an informal extension for a couple of months).
The R line does look good, Gareth. I just couldn’t justify another £60 a month! Hope delivery of the Merc’ goes smoothly.Did 31600 miles over 25 months (had an informal extension for a couple of months).

Just reading back over the last couple of pages and thinking about what I had read before mine arrived...
Over 1500 miles averaged about 38 mpg.
No ambient lighting other than footwell lights.
The configurator had said tri-zone climate, but it is only vents in the back with no temperature control.
The boot is fecking massive! Got a cheap boot liner from flea bay, that fits a treat.
