Looks good but think the wheels let it down.
I like them wheels on the Q5, are they standard or an upgrade wheel??
The car is described as an S-Line Plus - and I believe those wheels were part of the 'Plus' upgrade. So, an upgrade of sorts, but part of a package.

Hi Kell,
I remember you and your BMW issues from the TTF many years ago! It would appear that I tend to lurk rather than post though!

Not sure if it is of interest but we have a set of Audi 19 inch wheels with Vredestien wintrac 4 extreme tyres from our old shape Q7. We had to get new ones as they don’t fit the new shape.
Wheels are 8.5J x 19H2 and tyres are 255/55/19

My father also has a set of 18 inch as well that I need to sell, they are Audi wheels again, same tyres 255/55/18 and he had them on his Touareg. Sadly he has got Motor Neurone Disease and cant drive any more. Can find out wheel size for you if interested.
Hi Westy - I remember the username from there (seems like a lifetime ago now).

Very sorry to hear of your father's troubles, but yes I'd be interested in either set of wheels if they fit.

Just going to leave this here for the minute, so I know where to find the info...

From a bit of research, it looks like the wheels fitted to my car are 8.5Jx20 ET 33 and from what I've read above they'd need to be PCD 5x112.

This all sound correct?

Cheers

I've lost all the info from my A6 wheels, but I suspect even if they cleared the caiipers the offset is all wrong - even though the PCD is the same.

I'm pretty sure the offset is 42 on my A6 wheels.

Hi Westy,

Just been searching for more information and it looks like the offsets, PCD and centre bores are quite different between Q5s and Touareg.

Q5s are 66.5 centre bore 5x112 and 18" wheels have an offset of ET33 or ET39 depending on wheel width.

Touaregs are 71.5 centre bore, and a PCD of 5x130

18" wheels are:
8Jx18 ET53
8.5Jx19 ET59

So the centre bore is wrong too...

So have you actually fitted your A5 wheels to your Q5?

I saw a set of A5 wheels on eBay that aren’t too far away from me, but with summer tyres on.

The offset is a little lower which I think would push the wheels further out so I was wondering if there were any issues with rubbing.

Ignore the tyre sizes that was just what those wheels were supplied with, but this calculator shows the difference.

As the A5 wheels are the same width and the offset is only 4mm less, it means they stick out just 4mm from my current wheels.

On a Q5, with its massive wheel arch gaps, it should not be a problem.

Ok so i’ve Had a look at the tyre pressure sticker on the door.

If it gives the pressures for 17” wheel/tyre combos on the door, does that mean 17” wheeels will definitely fit?

Also managed to get a pic of the only numbers I could see on the calipers.

No, as I posted earlier, 18's possibly but more likely 19's will be the smallest that fit over this calipers. That part you posted is the brake pads, not the calipers hehe
I'd hoped they might give a clue to the size of the calipers.

Hi Kell,
Sorry for the delay, so I looked at the wheels are 8.5J x 18H2 ET58. No idea if that works or not. Can send a photo of them if you like.
Thanks

Ian
Hey Westy,

Thanks for this, but that offset is too high I think - would put those wheels 2.5 cm further towards the suspension. Even if the PCD and bore were right.

Well I got some.

Just as the snow was meting.

Prices seemed all over the place and it was just as expensive to buy 18" as it was to buy 20".

So in the end got some genuine new 20" Audi wheels and new Dunlop Winters for about £200 more than people wanted for used wheels with scrubbed tyres.

Think I actually prefer them to the ones that came with the car.

The only problem with winter tyres is the temptation to see how hard you can lean on them; I found myself stomping on the brakes or whipping round a car park (where safe!) just to see what happened.
Yeah it's good to know the limits.

As I keep saying to my wife, they're not magic tyres, but they will keep you going when others get stuck and, more importantly, help you to stop.

I just need to try and get a drive of the car myself. Since I started this thread, I've driven it about 10 miles.
