Hi there, does anybody have an S1 with the APR Stage 1 modification? If so, what effect did it have on your insurance premium?

Tried to do some online quotes but it seems challenging to specify the exact type of modification it is and i'd want to be 100% certain I was fully covered.

What I've found in the past is that insurers are interested in the percentage of performance increase.

It's best to just ring them and talk it through.

Hmmm yes, I realise ringing them is almost certainly the best course of action - My internet addled brain is just so reluctant to do anything at all over the phone these days, it seems like such a mighty inconvenience.

I know what you mean. I'd rather click a mouse than pick up the phone, but it works in your favour in the end.

Not cars, but insurance related...

We had a baggage claim for lost luggage and my wife spoke to an agent to ascertain the best course of action. We were told that we could go out and buy clothes to replace the ones lost, but then when she went to claim back the money, she was then told that wasn't covered.

However, because 'calls are monitored for training purposes' they have to keep the transcripts of the calls. When she asked for the transcript, they changed their minds once they'd seen it.

If there's any doubt at all, it's worth clarifying. If you click the wrong button, you may end up not being covered at all.

Spoke to them on the phone and it's an increase on standard of about £70 for the year - So not too terrifying a price jump, I was expecting worse for a 27% power increase.

Bit off topic but how do you find the S1 as an everyday car, we were thinking about a new 595 Abarth Comp but I keep hearing horror stories about even brand new cars.

A pre owned S1 is next on the list and the quattro makes much more sense where we live out in the sticks.

Don't really hear much about the little Audi hence why I thought I'd jump on this post.
Cheers

Sorry Daggerpie I can't help - I don't have one, i'm considering a few different options and one car that i've seen for sale has the APR remap, hence the initial question.

Ahh I see no worries. Personally I would be a bit wary about buying a mapped car, it might have been really looked after and driven like a granny, but lets be honest, we don't remap S cars to get better MPG despite what we tell the wife!

I love mine biggrin Had it a year now but not done many miles in it. Used as a toy rather than daily driver but perfectly practical for two people (we often have the back seats down for decent luggage space).

It was very good in the recent snow with winter tyres on.

I plan a Revo or APR remap in the future. No great effect on MPG I understand - you can't use the extra power most of the time.

S1s are absolutely hilarious; they're a lovely combination of the Audi quality/dependable feel with just a gentle sprinkling of hooliganism. They have that lovely feeling of being slightly over-engined.

27% power increase. So it's up to about 380bhp, Would that be about right? Sounds a right giggle.

Hmmm scratchchin

Standard is ~230bhp.
APR or Revo 'Stage 1' is ~310 to 320bhp I believe.

That can be done just with a remap but many folk add a fruitier induction kit and bigger intercooler for good measure (as well as the uprated clutch).

My wife has one, and on the odd occasion I'm allowed to drive it that's exactly how I have described it. Terrific fun.
