If it was fleet, was it in a company name?

I forget the issue now - I think it's something to do with the VAT treatment of lease cars. But on a personal lease you pay the VAT anyway. Who knows - maybe it's VW wanting some break in the "ownership" chain for legal or warranty reasons?
No, it was private, that's the thing. I was surprised I had to talk to Fleet Dept. every time. My current lease agreement looks identical but I don't know if it's normal or fleet again. I only called about VE103 document and they did it on the phone, some special department. I requested it earlier via website but nothing happened for a week so I had to chase it.

Maybe it depends on the dealer how they put the contract through and classify it: fleet or private. Both cars car came directly from dealers, from retail salesmen.

Had a Skoda Suoperb for 2 years. Did 40k miles. It was well-maintained I suppose. Bodywork was reasonable. Plenty of scratches and scuffs. It was a well-used family wagon after all. Interior was clean enough but loads of scratched plastic from loading stuff in and from unruly passengers! It had a dent in the door from where the wing mirror hit it when my wife smashed it. I replaced the mirror but the cap was still plenty scuffed.

The only thing I got charged for was a gouged rear door handle. It would need replaced. £27. That's all I paid. I just made sure the car was clean inside and out and left the bloke to do his job.

I put four puncture repaired Contis on before it went back too. £100 all in. I informed the BCA guy that my tyres had been puncture repaired in the interest of not being a total idiot. He said that was fine.

Any experience of windscreen damage charges?

My Golf R estate go back in Berkshire and have picked up scratches to the bonnet and windscreen from flying debris.

Bonnet I’m leaving but I could get the windscreen replaced through insurance paying my £75 excess but not sure what VWFS would charge. It’s 3 smallish scratches but in the drivers eye line.....

Does anyone know if you can get bca to look at the car and estimate the damages costs well before it goes back?

That's what they do. Usually come 2 to 3 weeks before lease ends. Gives you a bit of time to get sorted yourself. Bear in mind if you get a crap job done you'll pay for vwfs to put it right anyway.

Problem with doing that is when they come back to get the car they will be looking for the repair, if you have a substandard repair it will be picked up, however you are more likely to get away with a substandard repair if they didn't know that the damage was already there in the first place.

I’m thinking of seeing them like 3 months before the end for an informal chat?

I had a substandard repair aka smart repair. Done through cosmetic warranty. BCA spotted it straight away. It wasn't shocking, just very slightly off colour.

Hi long time lurker here.

My VWFS GTD goes back in September unfortunately my front tyres are down to 3mm but I expect to do another 5000 miles so don’t think they will last. What’s the cheapest brand I can get away with?

Also I have a chip on my screen which has about a 1cm crack either side. It’s been there for a year now and not got worse, does anybody have experience of windscreen damage and whether to get it replaced on insurance or wait and see what is charged at the end of the lease?

Thanks all

firstly check the contract you signed. Then check the fair wear and tear guide you were given.

So you lease a car and bin the contract.

Why?

Swap the fronts with the rears? The rears will have more than 3mm on them

I was charged £35 for a chipped windscreen, probably because it was repairable.

If you are certain they will need replacing, buy the cheapest you can now and then swap those that are on now back for handover?

unfortunately that could work out to be very bad advice because many contracts state equivalence of 'premiumness' of tyres, so you can't just get linglongs 3 days before handback.

Unfortunately I can’t do that as i have non matching rears, I got an unrepairable puncture 6 months into the lease and had to get an emergency roadside replacement with a different brand.

I’ll see how far I can eek out the 3mm!
