Thought I would start a new thread to share and discuss modifications to the new Audi S4/S5 B9.

Mod parts are rare at the moment for these cars, but have a lot of potential so I'm sure this will change over time. Also, for anyone who wants to share modifications such as to enable hidden functions to the ECU/MMI.

To kick it off, so far I have done this on my Audi S5 Sportback:

Added a TDI tuning box to give <>408bhp
Changed the 19" Carvo wheels for 20" x 10 TSW Bathurst all round in chrome/silver
Fitted a Milltek non-res catback exhaust with 100mm titanium tips
Changed the door puddle lights for S5 logo

In the pipeline is to carbon fibre the front spoiler & rear diffuser.

Hi,

I've got the B9 S4 and I'm very happy with it, it's leased so little I can do with it apart from a tuning box, how are you finding the TDI box?

How did you change the puddle lights?

TDI box is a great investment. Had mine since new (now 9k miles) and it's been flawless. Great performance on setting 7 (0-60 in 3.9-4s) and <>408bhp. The puddle lights can be bought from Amazon or eBay and are a direct replacement to the existing ones. Done in about 10 minutes.

I believe, well I read it somewhere on a service bulletin which was posted, that Audi dealer workshops can now detect tuning boxes, even if they've been removed.
I don't have reason to dis believe it, it would make sense if they can scan saved parameters I guess?

No they cant be detected. It is just scaremongering.

I'd struggle to see how it could be proven, admittedly.
But I've often wondered how you'd go about removing these things in the event of a breakdown on the hard shoulder of a motorway.
If your car subsequently got picked up by Audi assistance and taken straight to the local dealer it might cause an issue if they refused warranty work and logged it somehow.

Lots of what if's, but just wondered

Yes, if that did happen (unlikely as it is) you can unplug it in less than 10 minutes without any tools, whilst then waiting another 4 hours for Audi assistance to turn up. If on the other hand you have AA/RAC/Green Flag cover, they won't bat an eyelid anyway.

Fiddling around on the hard shoulder though is a BAD idea. I would call the AA and get them to tow me off first.

All very interesting stuff and may well effect some inferior or older tuning boxes out there, or indeed the very latest ECU coding. This issue came up a while back, and I had the opportunity to have mine tested by an authorised VW/Audi service and repair center who are also authorised to carry out warranty work. As of October last year, no detection, anomalies, or errors were found by me using the TDI box I have installed after some 6k miles. Living VERY close to VW/Audi UK HQ has it's benefits of knowing the right qualified people (who also live near to me) to discreetly ask and test these questions. It was also laughingly suggested by them that by making people incorrectly think they ALL are detectable (some certainly are anyway) that will deter anyone using any of them altogether. An engine re-map and/or revert back to standard will leave a definite trace on the ECU. I have also looked for the suggested giveaway codes using my VCDS and found none at all.

I have also been told that the TDI tuning box I have operates well within the expected maximum engine, gearbox, & drivetrain tolerances so should cause no unwanted issues.

So there you have it, but if you are still nervous about it don't buy one. BTW, I purchased the TDI box only because they told me it was the best one to use when I first got the S5, but there may well be others by now and new ECU coding....I'll ask.

Hi

I am coming up to my 1st year anniversary of owning my ex-demo S5 and have enjoyed every minute of it!

This is the first car I have owned that I will be upgrading as before finances have stopped me, and although I will wait for warranty to run out for the most part, these tuning boxes look ideal to start with!

I wonder if you could provide me a link to the TDI tuning box you used please?

I did find racechip.co.uk, but they didnt show hp gains of upto 408!

Also, most sites dont show parts/upgraqdes for S5/B9, like the above, but if it shows S4/B9 can these still be used?

Many thanks
Jon

Have a look at MRC Tuning http://www.mrctuning.com/ although not sure how much has been done with B9s to date

Noticed that DMS automotive are doing remaps on the S5 - 445 BHP/610NM torque, which are RS5 numbers...
