Unless you were prepared to wait I can see why!

VW have been pretty useless to be honest, seems earliest any will be available is mid July. For fleet demos they can't tell me if it's July or September or what the current 1 litres will be swapped for! I've have a 48 hr demo later this month in a 1 litre SE - this is to ensure size wise it's OK, assuming it is (should be as it's as big as a MK4) then I'll order.

I was looking at getting one until i saw what lease deals were being offered on them, which were silly expensive. I was pretty gutted tbh.

I ended up going for a in-stock 2.0 TSI Scirocco GT with the DSG, on one of the cheap deals they were offering before they stopped production on them.
Someone posted last night in the lease thread, PCH £144 a month, 2k down, 5k allowance. (DSG GTI)

Fantastic, be sure to post up pics pleasesmile

Just re-reading your post I see you ordered limestone grey, I did last week too, or more accurately I tried too. Speaking with our company car lease company VW have got almost all cars on a temporary order block with WLTP testing going on, just hope I can still get one.

Had a 1l one on demo last week, plenty big enough inside, and I have to say the 1 litre was plenty fast enough for the day to day, though it sure as hell didn't sound like half of my 911 to my ears!

Yeah I’ll post some pics as soon as it arrives. Limestone grey yep. They told me that there’s an issue with the wireless phone charger signal booster (like I would even know what that is) so it’s been removed from my car. The result:

“Once the amplifier is removed, the wireless charging will still function as normal, but there may be a slight reduction in signal strength when using the wireless phone charger.”

Think I (or more accurately my wife) can live with that! Looking forward to getting it.

Now that looks lovely! Thanks for posting.

What interior did you go for, Jacara cloth & the red band across the dash?

I've a light alcantara interior on my current Golf and the brighter interior of the Polo does appeal, I'm not a fan of dark interiors, in winter it feels akin to climbing into a coal bunker!

Yeah cloth and the red dash, it looks really good! Got numerous extras, but didn't bother with voice control or sat nav because if you connect your iPhone it connects to the screen in the dash and works great with Siri and Gogle maps!

That's what I'm going for too, I've ordered the + model so seems pretty heavily specced as it is.

Have you got google maps going? I understood that was the one drawback with apple car play that they don't currently allow google maps, which I now rely on for traffic updates. Apparently though IOS 12 will allow both google maps and waze. The nav on my Golf though OK has largely been replaced by google maps, it's pretty useless in traffic.

Pretty sure it is working. I may be mistaken as the delivery guy just demoed it on his iPhone so I haven't tried myself...but he said he had driven down using Google Maps and he showed us it working and speaking directions through the speakers.

It will be Apple maps - google maps isn’t available on carplay until ios12 is released. Could have been an Android phone if he did use google

Very nice that! Well done -- hope you enjoy it!

Have to post a gratuitous pic of the Golf, just cause they look a bit similar smile. Sorry!

Found Apple maps pretty OK for navigating so far, still prefer Google (played around with a spare Android phone). But mostly really lazy and just use the built-in nav. Think the Polo also comes with VW Car-Net? Which means once connected to the internet, the nav pulls real time traffic data from VW servers (or rather I think it is from the ex-Nokia service the German auto makers now use).

To get the car online I use a simple mobile wifi router with a cheap SIM. There's 12V outlet in the trunk, USB charger + short USB cable, velcro on the router - job done.

Keep us up to date on first impressions please.

I’m hoping with the mileage I do it’s a smaller Golf GTI.

Interestingly Car magazines first monthly report on their Arteon 2.0l showed 40.2 MPG over 654 miles, & I think it’s the same Miller cycle engine update on the EA888 fitted, albeit with 187bhp.

Haven’t got much to go on yet, and as it’s my wife’s car much of my experience will be second hand! I’ll take it out for a spin at the weekend though. It’s showing 51mpg at the moment having been driven for about 200 miles from the dealer.

Strewth, 51 on a brand new engine, even driven at 60mph that's pretty good!

Done a few more urban miles now! MPG overall is down to 40mpg. I took it for a quick spin this evening and it's quite fun. The noise in the cabin is a bit artificial, it's sort of a mix of 1.0 Polo and proper rorty motor. Doesn't work perfectly, but if you give in to it you can imagine you're in something pokey. It actually shifts pretty well...surprising turn of pace when you floor it. Didn't get up to high speed but it was definitely fun, very positive steering and great suspension. Would be keen to give it another go soon!

I drive a CLS 63 AMG-S Shooting Brake with nearly 600bhp and it's obviously not comparable directly, but where the AMG can easily scare you into backing off, this is just pure fun.

Some of the interior feels a bit cheap to me, but the dash, wheel and gearbox are all superb. Having an irrational dislike of anything Audi (prior bad experience....electric window motors grrrr) then overall I can't think of anything else I'd rather have...other than a Golf possibly.

Used the map today...and you're right it's Apple maps. Thanks for telling me because I always thought I was using Google maps by clicking the map icon on my iPhone!! Who knew?

I honestly never knew Apple had their own map software. I've had an iPhone since 2007 so that's 10 years of blissful ignorance ruined haha.

Oops, sorry about that!

The odd thing is that google maps is loaded onto the iphone as standard too, slightly bizarre.

As mentioned IOS12 will enable google maps & waze, personally I rely on google maps for the traffic updates, makes journeys far less stressful when you can see only +1 min delay!
