Hey guys,

I have been searching for a replacement car on the relative cheap since my MK 1 Audi TT went bust.

I found a specific Golf GTI for sale by a private seller and wanted your opinion if it sounded too good to be true and/or dodgy?

It's a 2006 MK5 Golf GTI thats had its engine replaced with a edition 30 engine with 85k on it (Guy says he's got evidence of the replacement and receipts etc).

It's also got the following mods:

- Apr Stage 2+ Map
- Apr Hpfp
- Ko4 Turbo
- R8 Coilpacks
- AMD induction kit
- GFB DV+ diverter Valve
- Forge Dv to Intake return and Throttle body Black Silicone hoses
- Dogbone mount upgrade
- NGK BKR7EIX spark plugs
- Methanol Kit Installed.
- Full Stainless Steel Scorpion 3" Resonated Exhaust with Sports Cat.

He said the cambelt & waterpump were replaced 2k Miles Ago and front & back discs & pads were replaced 1 month ago.

Its on sale for £3795.

What are your guys thoughts? Am I being ripped off or does something not seem quite right at the price?

Thanks!

MDMA .

Tired, miley MK5s do seem to be about £3k now.

If that work has been done cheaply and the car then hammered it'll be an unreliable nightmare.

If it was a tastefully and carefully upgraded, cherished GTI they'd be asking a lot more money.

Car has at least 172k miles on it looking at the last MOT. History quite poor on it. Sounds a bit of a dog tbh. Worth paying extra for a decent one.

MDMA, how did you find that info? As the advert says the new engine has 85k on it...

I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link a facebook marketplace advert, so i'll PM you it.

Car is on Gumtree too. Not many 2006 GTI's with the same spec smile if I was you, find a nice standard one.

adverts like that make me run away, I would prefer an honest standard example.

The spec and history is all 'he says, she says'

Even the basic stuff like the car has covered 170K+ miles yet the seller is claiming 85K cos that's what the replacement engine has done.
And the broken front bumper...

Sounds like its had a hard life. I would leave it and look for a non modded one , it will be more money but should be more reliable.

I agree, pay bit more and have a nice clean unabused model.

Too many discrepancies plus insuring such a heavily modified vehicle will be 'interesting'. So many non-std bits means identifying the correct replacement parts could be interesting when repairs are needed.

Personally I would look elsewhere for a std car, should be less hassle all round.

Someone saying 'fully forged' (or indeed froged) would make me run a mile. It's a complete croak of sheet. He has absolutely no idea what that even means, it's just BS from the TFSI facebook group. Drop in pistons at best. 'Fully forged', mega lols! No one would spend that kind of money for 380bhp (330 in reality) anyway.
