audi a6 4.2 q stalls

i have a a6 4.2 quattro which has been serviced by audi scince new and it sometimes will not tickover when starting from cold ,it fires ok the revs blip up as normal but instead of holding at 750 rpm it just drops to nothing ,dealer says there is nothing wrong withit anybody any ideas ?

Go to a different dealer! I visited 5 dealers with my A8 until one of them correctly diagnosed a problem!

I understand from The Auto Pool that the air mass meter is a common problem on Audis generally - just had it replaced on my S6, for example. It throws up random fault codes though, so unless you are aware of the issue it's not easy to diagnose. One of the things it does do is to activate the ESP unnecessarily so it would be worth taking your car out for some serious throttle abuse and seeing it the light comes on.

My 2.4 a6 displays the same symptoms from time to time. Not had it successfuly diagnosed as yet, so we just live with it but I'm hoping to have it sorted soon.

winder think i have sorted it ,it was a key fault causing the e,c,u to lockout switching off fuel pump ,thanks to marriot and stimpson for sorting it out ,who needs main dealers ? simon

So did you need to change the entire key, or parts thereof?

I've got a coolant leak to deal with as well now!
