>where did my post go ?

I was looking for advice on buying an S4 Avant. What should I look out for? Also, how much are we talking for a 5-6 year old car with around 10K/annum mileage?

All help would be much appreciated.

Lots of info (+ a link to a buyers guide somewhere in the site) at www.rs246.com

Biggest concern is health of the turbos (v. expensive to replace) but generally they seem pretty reliable if properly maintained. A lot of cars have been chipped which can accelerate turbo wear. Mass Air Flow meters can fail. Can't think of much else.

Mine (all standard) has had no problems since bought last August, to carry the rugrats. Not a bad car, quick enough; but it is a bit uninspiring to drive, with lots of understeer (and too much body roll) when pushed.

I would have thought £15k would get a good one - post '99 facelift. (Recaro seat option worth looking out for).

Good luck,
Vic

Thanks Vic.

Made the classic mistake - bought the first one I saw last night It's in excellent condition and had a full years Audi warranty on it. Blue with black leather interior, 54K miles - £16K. Hey Ho

Now to check those links and see where I went wrong !

edit> Forgot to say it's a facelift Yr 2000 and completely standard.

Sounds good!
......and that Audi warranty costs the thick end of £1k anyway.

Congrats...I have a blue 2000 with leather & 42k miles. dare I say it but you certainly paid retail for yours..

There is a decent Autocar road test of the car vs M3 evo & C43....the tester is spot on...the car drives very well up to 7/10 ths,,,then the understeer sets in...as long as you drive it that way you can make very decent progress using the 400nm of torque available at lower revs.

I find it quite an interesting car to drive, certainly enjoying it more than I ever thought i would....be interesting to hear your thoughts after a few weeks.

Yeah, perhaps. I sold my 'work car' last week and was having to use my V8S for work which was proving expensive - and I was getting strange looks from clients! Guess I paid for the convenience and the warranty.

Anyway, picking the car up early next week. Sounds like the handling will be similar to my old Peugeot 406 coupe - but hopefully without the torque steer.

Let you know how I get on
