Hi,
I've recently purchased a '52' A3-Sport 1.8, and I'm experiencing a slight drag to the left on the steering. (ie, it doesn't go quite straight if I take the hands off the wheel).

Audi have taken a look at it and insist the balance and the type pressures are ok.

But a couple of mates of mine suggest that the drag is normal for a car with wide tyres. Is this true? I've never heard of that before.

You would need to get proper laser 4-wheel alignment done which will be £90+ to be sure the wheels point the right way. But any car with wide tyres will be more susceptible to pulling down the camber - see if you can find a road with a camber the other way (or a safe place to drive on the wrong side of the road) to see if it pulls to the right instead.

I have just had a Run-in with Audi dealer over tyre wear on my (1 yr old) A3, the inside edges of the front tyres have worn excessively, anyway the dealer tells me that this is known as 'Quattro-Scrub' tm* and is a characteristic of the vehicle, But, interestingly, he asked me if it pulled to the left, which it doesn't - but he said that this is a common characteristic too! (they all do that sir!)

Anyway they're going to do a 4-wheel alignment on Tuesday FOC (they wanted £159) but they say I need to fit new tyres for them to do it correctly!

My tyres are only half-worn (except for the inner edge) & the vehicle has never been 'kerbed' so I'll be interested to hear their comments on tuesday........

I wonder?....but it needs new tyres anyway so I shall oblige, they also said it needs a full tank of fuel to get the weight right!

Again that's not a problem but I'm still concerned about the wear, normal or not.
