I’ve got a 2018 1.4 petrol so probably the equivalent to the new 30 or 35. It goes back next month and I’ve had it for two years. I’ve had one long life oil change and the inspection. The inspection work I really don’t understand. You want an oil change on its own? £239 they said. Yet with the inspection it’s £407. When you get the invoice the inspection is listed as complementary and has 0.00 charge. They send you a video telling me how much brake I have left and if my tyres are still legal. I can do that myself and it should be in THEIR interest that parts of my car haven’t started to fall off after 18 months due to a manufacturing issue . Obviously ensuring it’s road worthy is my job but checking for early manufacturing or build issues should be in their interest and not charged to the customer. Anyway £50 of parts and £289 labour plus vat. Followed by three phones calls asking if I wanted my 20% worn pads and 43% worn tyres needed to be replaced. It’s been a great car to be honest and £400 and a two new front AO Hankook tyres over 24 months I think is good value on a brand new car.

I wasn’t confident enough to attempt to get it services at a non Audi dealer. There is no book to stamp and just happier to know I’ve done the right thing rather than save a few quid that comes back to bite me when I hand the car back.

I have an s3 and have just signed up to their 2 next services for £468 whereas they wanted £405 just for one service. Audi servicing appears more variable than my previous bmw which was just minor major minor major etc. Can’t seem to find anything that says exactly what they do when which adds to the case that they can rip people off.

Audi offer price matching on servicing. As long as the garage uses genuine Audi parts (if they don't you can ask for it and it'll just be a small increase in price) and it has to be within 15 miles of the Audi centre you are asking to match the price.

A mate used 'bookmygarage' recently to bring up cheap prices. Got an email quote for the service stating the use of genuine parts and his Audi centre priced matched it. Saved him over £100 I think.

More info on the price match here: https://www.audi.co.uk/owners-area/servicing.html

That's good although as earlier, I'm bound into using the Audi network on the VWFS lease on my A4. As it happened I got a cheaper quote from the other branch of the same dealer network in the region. I've also signed up for a 2-service plan which saves a further £250, which brings the service costs back in line with other marques.

It's nothing to do with warranty. VWFS own the car so they can dictate that it's dealer serviced.

Apart from anything else, it means there's no issue selling it as Approved Used at the end of the lease.
I incorrectly assumed you were talking about your own car. If it isn't your property it isn't your choice so bend over and lube up.

Yeah so your local Audi centre would price match the 'cheaper' garage. You'd still have it serviced at Audi but not have to pay the Audi price.

Good thinking re the service plan as quite a big saving there (£250) and probably does bring it in line with the 'cheaper' garages.

My service is due in 27 days has popped up on my dash. Car goes back 29th September which is one day short of the two year agreement. Car is on long life servicing but has flagged a month early.

Example BVRLA charges states £50 for missed service on my documentation. This must be cheaper than doing the service at circa £200?

Anyone else had similar experience of the charge?

It's 'up to' 24 months, based on usage and oil quality - if you've got to 23 months without it flagging up as due, you've done very well!

Could always hand it back early so you don't incur the charge? (Assuming 'missed service' isn't defined in your contract as 'almost due' and service warning flashing up!)

Yeah 9.5k miles. Looks like I’ll either hand back early or take the £50 missed service charge… handing back early is £155. So probs take the charge. Just wondered if the charge is £50 as stated or more… it doesn’t say ‘from’ so I’d imagine it’s a set fee.

I've seen that charge mentioned before, but never any clarity on it. Surely it's got to £50 for not having the book stamped etc, which is a bit redundant now as few cars don't have service books.

£50 for simply missing the service doesn't make sense - it'd be bonkers to bother having the car serviced.

I don’t know - it could be read like it’s a record / documentation thing, rather than “service not carried out”. It should be quite a big deal as the car can’t be sold on as approved used.

IIRC the Merc fee is £750 per service.

S4 was in at Edinburgh Audi today for a service. Knew the brakes were a bit iffy but bit of a shock to only get an advisory that the front and rear pads are down to 4mm and to keep an eye on them and not get hit for pads and discs all round!

2 yrs service or 9500 miles was £463 for major inspection and oil change. They also advised break fluid change. I’m hoping that was including VAT, I didn’t stay on the line long enough to find out.

Needless to say car went back early with 5 days countdown to inspection on dashboard. No questions asked. 55% of last payment paid. £154.

Hi guys,

Brand new here so not sure I’m posting in the right place but I’ve scrolled through a fair bit and here seems to look good and you guys know your stuff.

I’m currently looking to buy an audi, more specially looking around at the A4 models. I’ve got my eye on two pretty specific models the A4 Avant Quattro 2.0 TFSI Dynamik (estate car). I’m aware there was only 400 Dynamiks ever made, does this effect parts/upkeep?
The second car the A4 3.0 TDI Quattro SE (the V6 sexy piece) a car which I have drove and absolutely love! (Never drove the avant ive mentioned however)

I was wondering if you guys have any knowledge on the upkeep of these cars in general and at what point in terms of mileage/age they start costing more? The avant is a 2011 and is 79k miles whereas the TDI is 2012 and has 73k miles on it.

All advice and little bits of knowledge would be massively appreciated!

Keep it easy, cheers!

Buy the 3.0 tdi if you do lots of long journeys, buy the petrol if lots of short.

MPG will be about the same.

The diesel takes more oil and is obviously heavier, so harder on brakes etc. Mechanicals will require more servicing.

The petrol is around the era when the EA888 was consuming large amounts of oil, so check if this car is affected and whether or not it has been fixed.

Stealer servicing costs are ridiculous, find a local specialist, go an talk to them and get their opinions on each car.

Service costs seem to vary somewhat between franchises & branches - 1st service on an S4 - £195. No hassle, no up sale & a courteous service.
