I have looked into this and I have heard that 240lb/ft is about the max recomended limit, even AmD say "Please note on DSG equipped cars we will limit the torque produced to protect the gearbox" for their 300bhp upgrade

www.auto-amd.com/a3enginev6.asp

also check out;

www.vwvortex.com/artman/publish/printer_317.shtml

"The torque rating of the DSG transmission in the TT 3.2 and VW R32 is 325 newtons meters or 240 ft-lb"

The 3.2L makes 236lb/ft so is just about on the limit.

cheers for that - looks like dsg is a non starter then :-( thought that might be the case.
wanted auto due to stop start commute.
still - saves £1400 on list price and i'm sure the clutch is quite light in traffic - compared to my rs clutched 993 ;-) so with 185bhp 280lb/ft auto/dsg may not be that necessary?
may look for a quattro instead as similar price (just a tad rarer to get hold of :-(

Don't let it put you off. All they do is cap the peak torque when they remap. The bonus is that you get maximum torque over a wider rev range. From all accounts, the DSG is a fantastic gearbox. Why not try it before counting it out?
