Late night question, but does anyone know when UK deliveries are likely to commence?

Not sure- I know that some dealers have them now as demos - and I saw one recently in a local car park - so they are trickling in!

Also- looking at some of the dealers they have some pre reg cars for sale - not sure what the lead time would be though!

Got any links to these pre reg gti's? Surprised also that dealers have them as demo's.

Those '5 on the dice' fog lights look awful - but you can bet that the boy racer element are going to driving around with them on.

Not impressed by the design (interior and exterior) of the Mk8 generally and the underlying platform is pretty much the same as the Mk7 - can't see me changing from my Mk7 R to the Mk8 version when the time comes for a new car, unless they pull something special out for the R model. Maybe they will listen to feedback and do an early facelift.

My disappointment is the demise of the 3-door configuration.
The 3-door Mk 7 always looks much more sporting and purposeful than the boxy ‘family-spec’ 5-door.

pretty much all manufacturers are dropping their 3dr hatches - sad times.

How long do people think it will be before the mk8 gti has a knock on effect to Mk7 prices, if at all? I really want an early Mk7 gti but prices seem to have increased if anything.

I've not seen any about and I've not seen any reviews from the 'big boys' Top Gear, EVO, etc.

The reviews I have seen have been less than enthusiastic about the cost cutting, the touch screen for the controls and the looks, the 5x led fog light for example.

I guess what I'm trying to say is the drop in mk7 prices will happen when the rave reviews for the mk8 start coming in, and that hasn't happened yet.

Some bizarre replies. The MK8 GTI has only just gone on sale in Europe, and won’t be on sale in the UK until next year. There are certainly no demonstrators yet!

I think folk are maybe confusing the launch cars with the new GTI. Wife is on the list for the new GTI, been told that we may see a demo around Xmas time.

Exactly, the regular Mk8 Golf has been knocking around in the UK since January but has only been promoted since lockdown has been lifted.

However the Mk8 Golf GTi has not yet launched in the UK, VW still list the Mk7.5 GTi on the UK website (along with other Mk7.5 variants)

Can’t you just reject it? I’m sure you’ve considered it and no idea of your circumstances, but it sounds like a complete lemon. My wife decided against waiting for the new GTI and has picked up a new Mk 7 on a good deal, sounds like she may have made the right call.

Good luck with that. You know you’re actually talking to Capita?

On the UK configurator as of now. Standard spec looks OK, though heated seats should really be standard IMO.

You could try VW Assist "there's lots of warning lights and I don't feel safe". I suppose there's always the danger they could take the car away and I don't think there's an assurance of a loan car with VW's scheme.

These cheap prices everyone seems to hang on for with the GTI’s R’s I don’t think will ever come. I just got a mk 7.5 R with metallic. 70 plate at £386 on a 1+47 with 6000 miles. Annoying when 4 years ago I had the exact same offer for £286 per month. Ended up taking a blue GT for 4 years which served me well. But now had to bite the bullet on a pretty expensive Golf.

I've just read all the issues with your new MK8. Wow!! A pile of poo, it sounds like. I would have rejected it. You're still within 30 days right to reject period under CRA 2015 for you to return for full refund, but I appreciate that leaves you without a car. Courtesy car is the least they should offer you.

I rejected a problematic new McLaren after 1 years ownership and got the list price back less the cost of the extras I specced.

I'm thinking of a MK8 GTI(currently have MK7.5 GTI TCR) but don't like the touchscreen and having to use it for so many requirements.

Why do these car designers think these touchscreens are safe to use whilst driving
