Hi, I am looking at the Audi A6 C7 Avant (or indeed the BMW 5 series as an alternative). Ideally something like a 6-7 year old car with less than 70k on the clock. For the A6 I was thinking either the 2.0 diesel as a manual or the 3.0 diesel, which I think would be auto only.
What are they like in terms of reliability and what sort of things should I be looking out for? I wouldn't be doing mega miles so the MPG difference wouldn't really bother me as both actually seem quite good.
Do they have air suspension? I know that can cause issues on the BMW and Merc equivalents.
Thanks in advance!

can't answer all of that - but the AllRoad A6 does have the 3.0 D and Auto, with the Air Suspension. Not sure about the other variants.
The 3.0 comes in 215, 275 and 350 bhp - or therabouts IIRC. The first two are more or less the same spec vehicle. the latter is the BiTurbo that is ripsnorting thing apparently, but comes with bigger brakes, wheels etc so running costs (not to mention fuel) would be higher.
Great all rounder though smile

BiTDI fuel economy much the same as single turbo in the real world.

Got a rough budget in mind? C7s are generally very strong.

interesting I found the move from the 215hp as a 2014 car, to a 275hp in a 2016 car saw a 10% hit in economy although perhaps down to the Urea ?

I personally like a little more power in an A6 than the 2.0 litre diesel but if it fits your requirements a 2.0 TDI manual will certainly get you the newest, lowest mileage car at that sort of money.

A 3.0 quattro is a good bit more expensive so will be relatively leggy. Not automatically a problem if well maintained.

If you do end up looking at an auto remember both Multitronic and S Tronic cars have 40k gearbox oil changes.

Factory belt interval on 2.0 TDI is 140k, not the 5 years franchise dealers like to push.

I've had a 2013 2L Avant Auto (multitronic) from new. Now on 65k.
It's been great. Reliable and fairly cheap to service at theAudi dealer. It's had annual oil changes, gearbox oil change at 38k, cam belt and water pump at 5 years. That's all. Still on original brake pads.
Towed some heavy boat trailers with it. The auto gearbox is very smooth and suits the car.
They are not terribly exciting but make a lovely family car. It still feels new to drive and is very comfortable.
38-45 mpg.
Would £13k get you into the facelift version which does better mpg, has the s-tronic gearbox and +20hp?
The 2.0l was one of the dieselgate engines. I've not had mine modified although Audi still try and do it every time it's in for service.

We had a 2015 C7.5 180 TDI ultra s-tronic for 3.5 years, actually drove and went really well, plenty of power for everyday driving and a nice place to be.

Hilariously unreliable though.

Oh dear, that doesn't sound so good!
