It’s awesome - came from an Aston Vantage when i had children, and now had it 6 years... wouldn’t change it. In fact don’t know what to do next. I suspect i will keep it and buy another 2 seater for me (sign of a mid life crisis i know...)

It is an epic car; pretty understated (i dont have the sports exhaust despite having the sports+ pack so its de-restricted), but unbelievably rapid when you put you foot down

Though on runs from Kent to West London (70 miles at an average of 60mph taking into account motorway and west london traffic :-) if we get over 25mpg we are doing well... most of the time on A roads i am about 22mpg

If you see 30mpg it’s witchcraft

Great tow car as long as no DRC. So limited to air sprung cars (the DRC accumulators sit at rear and mean you can’t fit towbar).
Did they come with factory fitted ones (haven’t seen one for sale with one used yet)?

A removable tow bar was an option on Air ones, but the tow bar is the same as all the A6/S6/RS6 C7 range, a decent fitter would be able to fit one (Doesn't even need any bumper cuts to fit)

I ran a PE for 3 years and 30k with no issues, pretty bullet proof build and visceral performance in a straight line. The car is a great blend of comfort and speed, eats motorways and with the cylinder reduction is reasonably economical on a long run, but so tempting to floor the throttle when a gap appears!

I chose Daytona with no badges in an effort to avoid unwanted attention (they are popular getaway cars especially in the Midlands) and had no issues, though many have. The car can’t hide its size of weight, so if you don’t need the extra room check out the B9, especially as you’ve come from a 911. I was fortunate to run the RS alongside a 991, in handling terms there’s really no comparison as you’d expect. It’s a very good all rounder and probably the best RS6 yet, especially in PE trim. The C8 is better to drive but a bit too shouty for me and very expensive after a few toys are added.

You will find lots of helpful information on RS246.com, worth registering there if you’re serious.

I owned my C7 Performance for a year in 2019. It was Panther black crystal (looked amazing in the sun) with dynamic ride (I much preferred the springs over the air susp).

It’s a beast of a car, the size of the thing, 5 up with luggage should never be so quick but the acceleration and power is mind blowing. The weight however, will negate fun off the A roads IMHO and after a while you feel it is really just a bl00dy fast estate car.

The tech is way behind competitors though.

In terms of reliability I had zero issues bar 2 leaking shocks at the front (common problem) which were replaced under warranty.

I personally found the drivers seat gave me horrendous hip ache and no amount of adjustment could rectify that. My current AMG GTS is so much more comfortable to sit in for long drives.

I preferred the leather/alcantara interior to the full leather.

Pan roof does allow a lot more light in but there are a number of stories of them leaking so be aware.

21” wheels and I had zero issues with buckling. MPG I saw average of 21-25 depending on how I felt like driving. Very little attention apart from those that knew what it was – unfortunately this included the scum who broke into my house for the keys at 3am – I couldn’t have it back after that and promptly part exed it for my AMG.

If you need a car to go from point A to point B in any conditions at the fastest speed then it is ideal. If you are after a lithe, agile sports car then it is not the right car.

Anyone have views on rs4 compared to rs6? Are they much bigger on the road? Costs? Just need a fast estate for a medium/large dog and say 5k miles per year

See my post second in thread. B9 RS4 is a more useable car for me. But not as refined as RS6. Much more economical and still very quick. Lower profile if that is your thing. I love mine. A keeper. Not many about either thanks to production interruptions due WTLP and Covid.

Just coming up to 4years/38,000 miles. The only reliability issue was a steering wheel position sensor failing a couple of years back - the dash lit up like a Christmas tree and a number of systems were unavailable, including weirdly the phone interface. I guess the fault set a massive error code to the ECU. Thankfully I was pretty close to my local dealer so just dropped it off and they fixed it under warranty in a few days.

I get ~18 mpg on my short commute to work, the dynamic red line only shifts to 6.8 about 3/4 the way there in Winter. Summer months sees ~20 on the commute, 22 when going to the local supermarket.

I did once see 30 on a cross country trip, I made a real effort to stick to the speed limit throughout.

1st gen S3 drivers like to 'ave a go sometimes.

Can't think what to replace it with, don't much like the look of the C8, inside or out.

Glad to have Google Maps back up and running again, seems VAG have reached an agreement as to its continued use.

I find the seats superbly comfortable. A couple of trips to France saw us covering several hundred miles and we got out feeling surprisingly refreshed. The roof box didn't seem to have too negative an effect on fuel economy, and the opportunity to 'press on' in France is limited anyway. Still managed to pick up a couple of speeding tickets though. Attracted a lot of attention from the locals, who's favourite question was "combiene de cheveaux?"!

Carbon brakes are a bit scary in the wet, serious fade on initial application until the water evaporates.

As an 'old git' I'm happy to get a year's insurance for under £400.

Genuinely curious as to what tech you consider to be behind the competition, or what tech would improve it?

Ditto, dont see what would improve it? It has Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, that in my view is all thats needed these days...

I have a MY2016 and getting Android Auto/Car Play updating (by a friendly chap in China) gave the car a new lease of life tech wise and probably the reasoncwhy ive kept the car way longer than I expected too.

Other thanca bank of touchscreens on the new C8 one - the car isnt really lacking in the tech dept and im quite fond of button to access certain things (which Audi have seemed to gone back to in the RS Etron thing).

I know i'm very late to the party here - but thought i would add my 2-cents for anyone making use of this thread as part of their buying decision.

That said i'm probably going to mirror the comments everyone else already made...

I bought mine - Daytona Grey, Pan Roof, Sports Exhaust and 21's in Feb 2019 at 15k - since then i have taken it up to 85,000 miles.
I used to do a lot of motorway commuting - and my average over 70k has been 22mpg - which is what my E46 M3 did over about 40k so can't really complain.

I have 3 kids, a big dog - i use it to go fishing each week, chuck mountain bikes in the back, take crap to the tip - its very well used and it has stood up brilliantly - the interior is super hard wearing and after a couple of hours interior cleaning no matter how bad it was it looks brand new.

Performance is stupid for a 2-tonne car. Ive had 3 kids, the wife and he dog sound asleep while i have rattled along at 160+. The marriage of the engine and 'box is perfect - it drags you towards the horizon in any gear as soon as you plant your foot.

Sports exhaust makes it sound like it should - but you can quieten it down in the menu - i have the suspension in its mid setting and everything else (gearbox, diff, exhaust, steering) in full beans mode.

It's not exactly a b-road ballerina - but it does handle much better than it has any right to.

Servicing is eminently reasonable for the performance on offer - no complaints there.

in terms of the bad points - the 21" wheels are complete dog st. By the time id got to 70k i had to replace mine with aftermarket Vossens after they all cracked (£4k). One failed on a family holiday on the NC500 which meant i did the route in a 75bhp Dacia Logan which noone enjoyed.

I had a coolant leak at the thermostat housing (1.3k). I had a misfire because the dealer didn't change the plugs when they should have

I get about 20k out of a set of Tyres - Michelin PS4S

Dealers are absolutely fking useless in terms of fixing faults - i have diagnosed every problem with the car myself and told them what they need to do to fix it. So find a good Indy.
